Traficant May Run Again
Traficant May Run Again

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — A former Ohio congressman who served seven years in prison for corruption says he may try to return to Congress.

James Traficant said Thursday that he will circulate nominating petitions in three House districts.

He was elected to nine terms as a Democrat from Youngstown before serving time for racketeering, bribery, obstruction of justice and tax evasion. He was released in September.

Traficant said at an unrelated news conference that he will decide on his political plans next month.

4. Why not?
Given the current crop in Washington I don't see his corrupt ass standing out like a sore thumb or anything.

6. And, unlike the rest of the crop at least he's served his time.
How many others belong in jail?

8. I don't know...
Compared to Bush, Cheney, DeLay, Vitter et al, Traficant (who, it must be remembered, refused to foreclose on unemployed homeowners when he was a sheriff) would almost be a breath of fresh air. At least we KNOW how corrupt he is.

11. Well-loved by the loony right.
American Free Press is all over this guy, mostly because he hates him some Jews. He was a big supporter (along with Pat Buchanan) of accused war criminal John Demjanjuk, and recently spoke at a Tea Party rally.

Wouldn't surprise me if he ran under some sort of Tea Party-related banner.
