Sorry for the political post but the house voted to give DC full representation..
To me this is a little more important than Edwards haircuts or Alec Baldwin. I was just reading about it over on CrooksAndLiars.com. Here's a link..

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/04/21/six-democrats-vote-to-deny-dc-right-to-full-representation/

What's disgraceful is that 6 Democrats voted against the measure. 22 Republicans broke ranks and vote with the Dems which helped get it passed. It's going to face tremendous opposition in the Senate and of course Shrubbie has vowed to veto it but it's about time that Americans living in DC got representation!

You can see which 6 Dems voted against the measure and links to their House phone numbers so you can politely ask them why they think those Americans don't deserve representation in their own government.

19. But still, they are dems and what's so
bad about giving D.C. representation; unless one is a fascist, of course?

15. Now what the hell do Nancy Boyda and Dan Boren care...
if DC gets full representation? They're in KS and OK for pete's sake? Besides that they're all Democrats. Isn't one of our core beliefs that everyone should have a vote? I don't get this at all.

27. Yes, but I am not ready to welcome back Ryun or Jenkins
Plus, I am not a big supporter of creating more Senators, even if they are guaranteed to be Democrats. Maybe it could be tied to anchluss for the Dakotas so that we still have 100 in the Senate. Let them vote as part of Maryland or something.

29. It isn't fair that DC residents don't have representation
That's the bottom line.

As for Boyda, sometimes I wonder if she is trying to vote like Ryun.

30. the question at this point
is whether this bill, as it is written, is the best, or even a good way to solve that problem. I am not aware of the specifics of the bill. Boyda has voted with the Democratic majority on many bills, for example, the 100 hour agenda, whereas Tiahrt has not.

3. Your post made me think about all those media big shots
who live in DC. Do you suppose that these folks, who spend much of their lives pontificating to us on political matters, do not even vote? How ironic. How hypocritical.

WTF is wrong with those Dems? I'll contact them and also my Senators both of whom I'm sure will support the measure.

6. They vote in their home states where they maintain residence
Edited on Sat Apr-21-07 03:33 PM by downstairsparts
DC is just a place they go to fulfill certain ambitions. Maybe they don't stay there long enough and set down roots, so why bother with voting rights there? As a DC native (my family always lived there) I always thought that if DC had been a historically white city rather than black, it would have had the same representation as the rest of the states long long ago.

I'd be surprised if the senate passed it.

7. They are waiting for it to become white again. That is why this is passing now.
The Washington Post recently demeaned the mayor of NOLA for calling it a "chocolate city" -- an endearing phrase the Post itself once applied to DC.

Such talk is now taboo in DC, where everyone on the "white side of the spectrum" -- from radical lefties to super-rich conservatives -- is fully committed to displacing DC' black population.

13. DING DING DING You hit the nail on the head..
DC is predominately black and has been predominately Democratic. Still these people live and work in America. They are American citizens without congressional representation. That ain't right.

I too will be surprised if it passes the Senate but I can't wait to see it on CSPAN. I want to hear the justifications for denying these people their due.

9. This is meaningless -- no Senate representation and it will be tied to Utah getting a seat.
Which demeans the very idea that DC deserves at least one seat of its own.

Also, the white efforts to depopulate DC (undertaken by my neighbors)
are geared to ensuring that whoever is elected, it won't be more than one
(because two people would ensure an inner-city vote for one of the seats).

passed cause it will mean more Democratic votes from our Nation's capital.

What is wrong with these six dinos? 3 from PA? Did the people of D.C. ever do anything to them?

I love what Eleanor Holmes Norton said to dave drier..

"Holmes Norton: .. I will not yield, sir. The District of Columbia has spent 206 years yielding to people who would deny them the vote. I yield you no ground. Not during my time. You have had your say, and your say has been that you think the people who live in your capital are not entitled to a vote in their House. Shame on you."
