Some Domestic Violence Statistics
Some stats from the American Bar Association:
http://www.abanet.org/domviol/statistics.html

Some stuff on violence by women against men:
http://www.oregoncounseling.org/Handouts/DomesticViolenceMen.htm

The CDC's take on it:
http://www.cdc.gov/ncipc/dvp/ipv_factsheet.pdf

Domestic violence against either partner is wrong and illegal. However men are taught to suck it up and not hit back when a woman hits them. "Do not hit girls" is often heard. Unfortunately, my impression is that while both sexes are violent, men tend to seriously injure women more than women seriously injure men. And men are more likely to kill the woman than the woman to kill the man. But that is just my impression and I could be wrong.

Globally though, violence against women is much much worse than violence of women against men. And I have never heard of suttee (sati) for men. Also it is usually the woman murdered when it comes to the family "honour" not the male.

1. This is not a competition
I've worked a fair share of years in social services, and have seen many victimized men. I could share stories from the field, and personal experiences where men are silent, and woman have been abusive. I can also do vice versus, but the chorus of disclaimers clamoring but but but but and then woman is becoming redundant. I haven't seen anyone say that violence against women doesn't exist, but i've seen the opposite said.

If you need anymore proof that woman are as aggressive/abusive as men then just turn on your evening news.

3. As a boy growing up I was taught that
if someone hit me I was supposed to hit back, unless it was a girl that hit me. Well, I did hit a girl once because she hit me first. It was done more on reflex and instinct. There was no thought to it. I was horribly punished both by her parents and mine. We're talking lifetime scars here.

4. Well said. Condemning female violence against men isn't approving the reverse.
Men are larger animals more capable of inflicting lethal injuries, and that is a big problem.

Defusing domestic violence should be the concern of all, and that means stopping female against male violence, too. The tacit approval society has of women hitting their male mates, even allegedly in fun, is part of the problem. Many women seem to feel that hitting their man is a right, or that hitting a man who offends them is acceptable.

Hitting others is not acceptable.
