Author Gore Vidal says he refuses to feel any sympathy for Roman Polanski’s rape victim, whom he dubs a “hooker.”

In an interview with The Atlantic, the controversial 83-year-old author of such books as “Myra Breckinridge” and “1876” says of the director’s sex scandal, “I really don’t give a . Look am I going to sit and weep every time a young hooker feels as though she’s being taken advantage of?”

The young woman to whom he is referring is Samantha Geimer, who was a 13-year-old aspiring model in 1977 when she was drugged and raped by Polanski.


Vidal went on to say that the media pushed an inaccurate image of Geimer, painting her as an innocent victim as opposed to what he believes to be her true identity....


Did not realize this was a story from yesterday. It is incredible.

I don't know the girl's past and her sexual maturity, if she had any for a girl that young is irrelevant. She was underaged and a grown man should know better than to touch a thirteen year old, no matter what stories might circulate about her or what reputation she might have had. And if she refused sex, that makes it doubly inappropriate.

I remember this story was floated in 1977 when the news broke. And that her mother was the child's pimp.
Whether it might be true or not....I have no idea, and I'm offering no conclusions. Just saying that the child prostitute thing was out there then.
I didn't pay very much attention back then, and I have no idea whether this could have been part of Polanski's "defense" or not.
It obviously didn't get too much traction, or momma might have gone to jail as well...

23. Considering when this happened, it wasn't unusual to try to paint

a rape victim as a slut, even if she was a child. I believe Roman's publicist probably went to work right away to seed stories in the gossip rags about the girl being "sexually precocious for her age" and other innuendoes. It's a good thing that the courts saw it differently and weren't swayed by a propaganda campaign.
