Former Fox Pundit: I Quit Because Glenn Beck Is Scary

Posted by Tana Ganeva, AlterNet at 5:43 PM on October 25, 2009.

Sounds reasonable.

On CNN's Reliable Sources Sunday former Fox News contributer Jane Hall explained why she left the network: basically, she noticed a decrease in debate featuring opposing viewpoints. Also, Glenn Beck is terrifying:

Jane Hall: “The reason I left is because I think they have less debate than they used to. But you know it’s a fair point to say, how much debate is there on MSNBC? How many Republican strategists? We have a bifurcation of the media that I think is going on ...

Howard Kurtz: The reason you left is because you feel they have less debate than they used to? In other words, it used to be Hannity and Coombs, now it’s just now it’s just Hannity. It used to be Bernie and Jane. Now it’s just Bernie.

Yeah, i think there’s less debate than there was before. And I am frankly uncomfortable with Beck, who i think should be called out, as somebody whose language is way over the top. And it's scary ...

Kurtz: Was that a factor in your deciding to leave Fox?

Hall: Yeah. It was.

4. Not denying that Beck would be a shit colleague, but if she thinks
Fox and MSNBC are in any way similar (albeit different sides of the political fence), she's delusional.

7. She is talking about debate, differing points of view
being welcomed. I don't watch fox so I can't compare but the only show that doesn't regularly invite guests who disagree on msnbc is Countdown

But from what I have seen on fox through clips or transcripts...there is a big difference. MSNBC doesn't make crap up. That matters!

5. Well, not to sound excessively inflammatory, but Beck really does make me think of Hitler
I think to myself "this must be the kind of popular lunacy that destroyed Germany."

8. Beck has a bad case of Hitler envy.
Just think Hitler could make racist comments in public and not be criticized for it at least in the domestic media of the day. Hitler wore swell uniforms in public and other Nazi's had really snazzy looking gold pins. Of course Beck thought he was being clever and cute wearing the quasi Nazi outfit on his latest book. It takes little to no imagination to see Beck fall into the role of his costume. The grinning little turd likes his uniform.

Make a Nazi mad or hurt his feelings then you get your head bashed in, not a crying jag from a lunatic. While being a Nazi you never had to weigh your words as long as you followed the party line, such as prevails today on Fox news. Bill-O could really follow through with his threats of Fox News goons visiting those nasty callers he gets on the radio.

It all comes down to the modern fascists are just constrained by political correctness. How they must envy the good old days when a thug could be a real thug. I call it Hitler Envy.

11. Imagine if his 'soldiers' were to cross the line
I don't think it's possible, but the required insanity does exist.

6. Rethugs are regularly invited on Maddow and Olbermann but they are too scared to show up
They don't want to answer any tough questions.

12. Fox Has Decided To Just Tell The Big Lie and Dump The House Liberals
Afterall, rememeber when Alan Combs brought up John McCain's infidelity in response to John Edward's infidelity? Even the house liberal sometimes says inoportune things for Fox's daily dose of propaganda.

14. There STUCK with Beck now - he's big in the right wing nutty world, but with every day,
he tears apart Faux Noise as a "news" channel. One by one, the people that didn't realize that Faux wasn't really a true news outlet learns. His language is violent and racist - and, if you've seen one video of him, you've seen them all - he seems unstable and dangerously close to flipping out (drugs?)
