I think what gets me the most is he and his wife are STAUNCH catholics, go to church and it bothers me that most emails he sends are about hate, dropping bombs, kill 'em all now, War War War.... These are people of the bible, that can quote stuff to you...and he is A BIGOT. (get mail about blacks and hispanics all the time. My daughter is married to a black man and he is one of the most patient, generous and loving husbands and father I have ever met.

Hillary is not my choice for president - and I'm not sure I want to vote for her, but I'm sick of them dissing her because they are afraid of an intelligent, educated woman....who happens to be married to a successful, hotty, adorable ex-president who can give a speech without stumbling through his abc's.

Thanks for any tips on how to handle this.

I've done that. I've only had to block a few people, and that was when Stupid was at the peak of his popularity.

Most people would rather keep an easy line of communication open rather than have to spend money on long distance phone calls or make the effort to write a snail mail letter.

21. Someone sent me an email (the 'Andy Rooney' one) in which there were

racist, sexist, anti-GLBT comments, in my humble opinion.

It was a certain relative. I hit 'reply all,' and described MY belief system. Apparently, I scandalized the entire small town, and am not currently welcome in Enid, Oklahoma. Meanwhile, that relative has learned how to 'blind cc,' and not give either my husband or I another such opportunity.

I think that the part that got them was when I stated that we fully supported complete GLBT rights, and that my daughter (10) and I had both proudly rode with PFLAG in the Pride Parades in San Diego and Palm Springs.

That did it. No more emails from that relative.

... you can simply say that you have spent a lifetime thinking about these issues and being an activist for the other side, so it should be clear that the two of you will always disagree. Either way, close with a request to permanently remove your name from their list.

I've tried it both ways, and while spending a couple of hours composing a 5-page essay makes me feel justified, the truth is that there is no dialog here. Spam like that is designed to make those who already agree with it feel good about their rightness, not change anyone's mind.

What seems to work best for me is to refuse to read past the first few lines, and just delete it. I call replying to that kind of thing "rising to the bait", and it's a waste of my time. I HAVE spent a lifetime thinking about and acting on certain issues, and that's sufficient.
