Balloon boy's two brother's knew all along Falco was hiding in the attic.
UK Telegraph reporting that they disclosed Falcon's hiding place.
The brother's were also seen on the roof with a camera.

"Bob Licko, 65, a neighbour, who was taken in by the prank, said he was leaving home when he heard a commotion next door. He said he saw two boys on the roof with a camera, commenting about their brother.

"One of the boys yelled to me that his brother was way up in the air," he said.

He said the boys' mother seemed distraught and that their father was running around the house."

snip

"The boys may well have derived inspiration from their father's eccentric technical pursuits."

snip

"A friend blogging about Mr Heene said he was "an amazingly creative human (now turned mad scientist) who insists on repeatedly proving that there is a very fine line between genius and insanity".

3. I'm still think this is suspicious and that this has been staged by the father.
I may be wrong but the father should of known immediately that basket wasn't attached.

18. Wolf tried to nail them at the end
and told the father to ask the kid what he meant by, "We did it for the show." The father hesitated, then got his back up and accused Wolf of insinuating that it was a hoax. Wolf backed off and the show ended.

44. Yup. I think it was a stunt too. Even if it wasn't what kind of father leaves
three kids outside with a helium filled ballon? Cause the parents say they were not their when it took off. So they are really careless even if it isn't a hoax.

In hindsight, now that we know the boy was hiding and was never trapped in the balloon,
and that it was possibly a publicity stunt, yes, I think it's fair to call it a silly story.

43.  The UK doesn't wait for carrier pigeons to bring news over the pond.
The story went viral before it was discovered to be a prank. Furthermore if children devised prank that shut down a major US airport for 30 minutes and mobilized Air and Rescue it certainly is newsworthy. No newspaper would be silly for reporting it.

15. I read they thoroughly searched the home in case parents were mistaken
and the sheriff said he wasnt suprised the kid was hiding because that happens countless times so the police dropped the ball granted they may have been caught up in the story and assumed searching the house was pointless.

Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden :

"This is not the first time when we have been searching for some child, that when they realise people are looking for them, they hide, because they are afraid that they are going to get in trouble," he told reporters. I can't tell you how many times this has happened over my career."

46. That is definitely damning especially since the father reacted as he did.
If the father was unaware of this prank, it would seem only logical for him to ask Falcon what he meant because it is not outside the realm of possibilty that the brother's may have concocted this prank by themselves thinking their Dad would be impressed.
