Jim Rome's take on Rush Limbaugh
My guess is that Rome's audience is packed with Limbaugh fans. So, he has to be real careful about weighing in on the bloated pig. In 90 seconds, he does a good job of just that:

(For the uninitiated, Jim Rome has a sports radio program. It's very popular among the athletes. Rome is coarse and opinionated but a players' guy all the way.)

1. anyone who follows sports knew limpballs never stood a chance in hell.
like rome said--it`s their club and it`s their rules. limpballs knew he was`t going to be invited but it made him a ton of press and we`ll see who he blames.

23. Does anyone really think the owners would have approved Limpballs?
Of course not...they get a vote, and with the Indy owner already saying he'd vote no, you know a lot more were gonna vote no, or be under pressure to do so. Limpballs doesn't have any special privilege to own a team...they can legally deny anyone.

2. Good guess. "What's good for his brand may not be good for the NFL brand...
"...It's a private club...if they don't want you, you're out, no matter how much money you have...should they want him? That's neither here nor there..."

COPOUT!!! Shame on you, Romy--especially since YOUR brand is built on being coarsely opinionated. You know perfectly well why the NFL shouldn't want Rush, and the very least you could have done was disclose that ESPN once thought they wanted him, too!

6. Yep, Rome copped out. He's usually pretty outspoken on classless racists like Limpballs.
He bans callers and texters for far less than what Rush has said.

8. Really? That's good to hear. That would explain in part why so many players like him.

4. Mike and Mike just talked about Limbaugh
They both said that the decision was not about Limbaugh's "supposed" racism, (their words) but purely a business decision. Mike Greenberg said that he has seen no evidence of Limbaugh being racist. I usually don't get political observations from sports guys and now I know why.

7. They got it half right. Jim Rome got the other half.
Edited on Thu Oct-15-09 07:19 AM by Buzz Clik
Mike and Mike are clearly playing to their base of mostly young white guys who just might be Limbaugh fans. I guess they didn't have the stones to tell their fans that the business decision is based on the fact that the other owners won't tolerate an owner who is openly bigoted and thinks racism is funny. The players' union would make life miserable for the league if Limbaugh became an owner and started in again. It's easier to keep him out than than to throw him out.

9. They were correct that it was purely a business decision
But it perplexed me that Greeny said he has heard nor seen no evidence that Limbaugh is a racist or has said anything racist. You are correct they are playing to their viewers, but I have a hard time believing that they have never seen evidence of his racist comments.

16. Of course it was a business decision.
They decided being in business with a racist was holding them back, so they cut the racist loose.

Ain't no mystery why he's history.

12. mostly a business decision, imo
70 percent a strict business/image decision
20 percent of black players reciting some of limbaugh's greatest hits and saying they wouldn't play for him
10 percent "it would be more trouble than its worth, and we don't NEED him, so why even bother??"

13. Actually, it all falls under "business decision."
The other 30% are simply extenuating circumstances that lead to the conclusion that Rush would be bad for business.

20. If Greenberg hasn't "seen" any evidence that Rush is racist, then he hasn't really looked.
Edited on Thu Oct-15-09 11:02 AM by rocktivity
And I suggest that he and Rome "start" looking at the reason why Rush is no longer employed by ESPN!

11. Jim Rome is phony a-hole who is all about Jim Rome.
I will never forget or forgive his piling on the Dixie Chicks @ the start o the Iraq war and
calling Natalie Maines "the little fat one." Now time has shown us all just how right
Ms. Maines was in saying, " (the Dixie Chicks were)... ashamed the President of the United
States is from Texas." After the blood got up to everybody eyeballs and the loss of money
was in the trillions Rome was not above taking a shot @ W bush.

19. I should have put a sarcasm thingie in there.
Rome did a remote from a stadium where I was working in 2000. He bragged about that incident and called his audience idiots for buying into it. Small guy/big mouth. I noticed when he left, in his stretch SUV/limo he had at least 3 big ass bodyguards for "protection".

I have to give him credit that he has made a career out of being an over the top asshole.

therefore no matter what Jim Rome says, he's a manipulating, attention seeking third rate hack.............. imho
