but his misunderstands it. France's health insurace program is public, not health care in general. Hospitals are mostly public and there are some private ones, doctors offices are all private as are pharmacies. My whole family is covered for less than 300 euros a month

Their associating France with a moderate Republican here may be more accurate than they realize, as 5 of France's 6 postwar presidents were Conservatives; but especially as the French version of 'teabaggers' have their own party (LePen's National Front), the mainstream Conservatives tend to be fairly sane and moderate.
