If Henry Kissenger can win the Nobel Peace Prize
If Henry Kissenger can win the Nobel Peace Prize does it really matter who wins it after that?

1. On Sept. 11th, 1973, the democratically elected government of Chile was overthrown and destroyed.
President Allende was dead. The presidential palace had been overrun by soldiers loyal to Gen. Augusto Pinochet, who would become dictator.

The CIA knew in advance that the coup was coming, and it notified the Nixon White House. This is what Kissinger and Nixon said some days later while Pinochet was mopping up what was left of the resistance:

Nixon: Nothing new of any importance or is there?
Kissinger: Nothing of very great consequence. The Chilean thing is getting consolidated and of course the newspapers are bleeding because a pro-Communist government has been overthrown.
Nixon: Isn't that something. Isn't that something.
Kissinger: I mean instead of celebrating – in the Eisenhower period we would be heroes.
Nixon: Well we didn't – as you know – our hand doesn't show on this one though.
Kissinger: We didn't do it. I mean we helped them. (garbled) created the conditions as great as possible.
Nixon: That is right. And that is the way it is going to be played.

Read from it what you will.

2. Kissinger didn't deserve it, either.
Kissinger is an unindicted war criminal.

3. It's what I observed early this morning. . .
Good for Obama he was accorded the award, and I hope it has some impact on future events, but my personal opinion -- dating from that dark day when the Committee tapped Kissinger, a war criminal, for its "honor" -- the dynamiter's prize is a hollow bauble.

4. Yes, it does. Because someone as essentially vile as Henry Kissinger
shouldn't be allowed to spoil something as essentially good as the Nobel Prize.

The prize turns out to be a Rorschach test. Who knew.

But, don't let Henry Kissinger be what you envision. He doesn't deserve you. :)
