a letter I just wrote to a conservative associate
Dear X
we will always have very fundamental differences about
Politics. that is obvious to me. But an international group decided to
honor the president of the United States. He was nominated within days
of the inauguration, before he did ANYTHING, except maybe prove that
the USA wasn't as racist as the world thought we were. Would I have
nominated Gandhi first? you bet I would.
On the other hand, President Obama has done some very good things
already with detente, which I will happily enumerate if you want to
hear them, but I expect you don't.
And as for him being in over his head, that's why he has advisors. He
even picked former Bush allies. That was a pretty wise choice, wasn't
it?
No one man will ever be wise enough to make all the right decisions
as president of the USA. No one man would NOT be in over his head. I'd
be a fool to think otherwise. However, we, the American people voted
Pres. Obama into the white house.
What saddens me the most is that he has to spend so much time putting
out brush fires caused by American citizens who want to harm our
country just to spite him... What kind of patriotism is that? It
stinks, it really does.

I'd much rather talk to you about our civics club.

1. He was nominated 11 days in, they voted in October
Anybody can be nominated and few are considered. He has done a lot of good things to promote peace since the nomination. There are several threads in general discussion about what he has done to earn it.

Personally, I think it is a bit too soon. Not that he didn't deserve it, but it is so early in his Presidency.

Your letter is good. Hope he responds well.
