Exhibit B
Edited on Wed Oct-07-09 06:13 AM by LaydeeBug
On another thread to which I'll gladly link at the end, someone was bringing up rampant historical revisionism. This was Exhibit B...

Exhibit B:

Many people are claiming the New Deal failed. This is a lie. A big lie. The New Deal and government intervention through WW2 directly led to the most prosperous economy in our nation's history.

I started this thread to learn what about Exhibit B is untrue. Maybe that 'many are claiming' that it failed part? Please help me understand...

on edit to add the original link. ;) http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x6714860

2. I think many conservatives want to believe that it was WWII, not the New Deal itself,
that got the country out of the Great Depression and "led to the most prosperous economy in our nation's history". Most people believe that the New Deal was effective, even though there was a "second dip" to the depression in 1937, because FDR was convinced it was time to balance the budget, and unemployment was still at 15% in 1940 - down from 25%, but that WWII kind of finished the economic recovery.

While the real number of people who believe that the New Deal was ineffective is relatively small, they are largely conservatives so their view is well known.

3. I was really taken aback at how exhibit B was sort of "snuck in there"
Do you feel that WWII kind of finished the economic recovery? While I can understand that it may have (manufacturing back in the days when we actually made our weaponry here) helped, it certainly doesn't negate the New Deal.
