Controversy, Sensationalism, Theatrics, Whatever it takes......
How best to get people to listen or watch. Some form of stimulant, it would appear is what is necessary. Republicans have known this forever. They are constantly saying outrageous things for attention. Code Pink uses theatrics for getting attention to their cause. Rush uses all of them....I would bet more people are aware today about the number of deaths because of lack of Health Insurance and that it is a very uncomfortable fact most people don't want to be reminded of. I relish more speeches such as Grayson's.
We constantly concede the debate to conservatives in the naive belief that having the facts on our side gives us the advantage. The conservatives learned long ago how to appeal to the species of average American in a way that evokes emotion. It has worked for them and we have sat around with our piles of factual information scratching our butts and wondering how they won the public debate again.
Grayson's style is exactly what is needed to move attention from the right-wing obstructionists to the real issues behind health care reform. He has the guts to tell the truth about the Republican attacks on democratic values, and the brains to tell it concisely and dramatically.
We need more Grayson's in the Democratic Party. Senator Al Franken could and should be doing exactly the same thing. Thank God a real Democrat has come up to the plate and he is hitting it out of the ball park.
