WTF with Marc Maron

I confess to being a hardcore fan of Break Room Live until it was cancelled. I was wholly addicted, and watched every single show every day, all the way from the pre-show tests to the very last episode. Sometimes twice. Losing that show broke my heart.

Maron's doing a podcast called WTF which I find to be even more super-edgy than BRL. As an example -- in the first show, Marc urges people not to boycott Whole Foods for their CEO's ridiculous opinions.

No, he actually suggests that people start shopping there, and steal. He says that he avoided Whole Foods until the comment was made -- then went to one, loaded up a cart, and walked out of the store while pondering a cabbage. He talks about how it felt to get away with it.

Really, I enjoy the hell out of this guy. And WTF is damned entertaining. David Cross, John Oliver, Lawton Smalls -- I'd like to see it back in a video format, but I'll take what I can get for now.

For those of you who miss Break Room Live, I got your fix right here.

2. It's a great podcast.
But if I recall correctly he only stole one small item from Whole Foods not a whole cart.

6. Used to know these guys who would steal an entire shopping cart full of beer every week.
Cases of Budweiser cans. They just rolled out the door with it, nobody stopped them. I think they actually paid the rent this way, by selling it to teenagers at $10/case. Not that they didn't have an endless supply for themselves and always had plenty of beer for sharing.

I didn't realize what they were doing until I just happened to show up at the grocery store one day just as they were leaving. Then it all just "clicked" in my mind. I don't know where you get the nerve to pull that off.... I couldn't even get away with shoplifting a candy bar when I was a kid.

As for pulling off something like that at Whole Foods.... Yeah, I guess if you had a bunch of their reuseable bags, filled them up as you were shopping and then just rolled out the door, it might be possible once. Provided nobody caught on to what you were doing. Nothing I'm going to try though, even if I had a Whole Foods in the immediate vicinity, which I don't.

11. Wow, and at Whole Foods, you could get some *good* beer!
You're giving this unemployed 50-year-old some ideas!

4. I LOVE WTF!
Episode #4 is the best so far - he has a hilarious riff on Viagra for younger men as well as a great segment with David Feldman, who I had never heard of but who is really funny and also has a podcast.

You can get it by just putting "Marc Maron" in the search field at iTunes.

8. I recall Maron from the 90s. Very pro-drugs and Leftist politics. You never go wrong w/David Cross!

9. It is easier for me to boycott them
The nearest Whore Payback err whole paycheck err...
What ever is 43 miles from my home..where we grow a fair bit of what we eat.
We also buy from neighbors, local farms or farmers market.
Just not worth the gas, I happened to note when driving to the dentist the other day after I filled up. Besides what we need from the grocery is limited and they folks at the local Food Lion are much nicer..I never could stand snobs, I get the nearly irresistible urge to push them down and run over them with the buggy. The Dodge would work better, but there is the body work and the police report. and my gentle nature...

13. Heh I've known Marc since Morning Sedition
GOD I miss that show!
The interplay between everyone was really great!
I loved the 'rational' half that mark played to marc.
Plus the entire cast, it was just amazing. I was also impressed that they managed to get the newscaster into the act as Pimp Daddy!
All the char's by Jim Earl, Dave Cherryy, and the amazing KENT JONES! (now)

I really miss the humor that Air America used to have.
now it's less than a shell of what it used to be.

15. Randi's still free live, just not for archived podcasts. And frankly, I'm happy to pay for it.
She's got the Second Sight, that one.
