WAAMTTWTTWHED
We are all more than the worst thing we have ever done.

The worst thing I have ever done is hold other people's opinions about me higher than my own. That has led to a lot of pain and taken years to get past, though I still succumb at times.

What is the worst thing you have ever done?

1. I've destroyed a personal relationship due to my own selfishness.
I probably ruined a three to four month period for that person because I couldn't see past what I wanted. I make excuses like I was under a lot of stress at the time and things like that, but I could have acted differently.

2. I have forgotten
That is the only sin. The only blessing is to remember.

3. A good memory is not necessarily a blessing, I've found.
Remembering, so that you don't make the same mistake again or hurt anyone else in the same way, is good.

Remembering, in the sense that not a day goes by that you don't think about what you did and think to yourself, "WHY did I do that?" -- not so much.

Thankfully, the people I've wronged have gone on to lead better and more fulfilling lives. This is as it should be.

I've gone on to see my life turn to seven shades of crap. This is probably as it should be, too.

I've finally filed the papers, but it's about a year later than I should have.

7. really and the worst thing I have done being
"allowed others opinions of me to matter too much". Well who the heck did that hurt, besides yourself? I am not sure that hurting yourself would ever be considered worse than hurting somebody else.

From the title though, it is a question of self definition. We all have lied, but most of us probably do not label ourselves as 'liars'. We all have stolen, but we do not label ourselves as thieves. We all have said or done pretty stupid things, but do not label ourselves as idiots. However, we often like to label other people, especially once they have been indicted or convicted. And like Carlin said "everybody who drives faster than me is a maniac and everybody who drives slower than me is an idiot". Other people are often annoying or judged, even when they are doing nothing substantially wrong. But it's totally unfair when the same thing happens to us.

8. Who the heck did that hurt, besides myself? Others for sure.
For starters, my child because I stayed in an unhealthy relationship for too long because I believed the opinions of others over my own, and I listened to too much bad advice while getting out of it causing much stress and financial harm to my parents also.

10. none of that sounds like anything you did
For example, suppose I goto a party, one where 'mama told me not to come' but I went anyway and then something bad happened. Maybe I get the crap beaten out of me or maybe I get hit by a drunk driver on the way home. That could be the 'worst thing that ever happened to me' but it's not the worst thing I ever did as if it is comparable to being on the other side - the one beating the crap out of somebody else or the one driving drunk and hurting somebody else.

15. I don't know if it's the same for everyone as they get older, but
I find that as I get older, there isn't just ONE best thing or worst thing.

I don't have just one favorite song or one favorite author

Or one favorite food

Or one best memory or one worst memory.

so I can't really say what is the worst thing I've ever done. I suppose if I murdered someone, that would be the worst thing. But I haven't. So everything after that is really bullshit, isn't it... I mean, as far as being the "worst" thing I've ever done.

I guess the older one gets and the more experience one has, the less likelihood there is for just one thing or another to stand out because we've done so much.

Not a very interesting answer, but that's it...

16. That is why I came up with what I did, more of a broad category/thing affecting
a lot of my life. Stealing a candy bar when I was 8? meh. Letting myself be overly influenced by other's opinions? Led me into a lot of negative places and things.

what you are saying though, about taking others opinion of you over self. the thing, that is a lesson and when you do get it, ... ah, life is grand. no longer matters and are free

i dont think many of us are there young. seems to be something all of us hopefully grow into.
