Has anyone ever gotten a job through the internet?
You know, by posting your resume on a job bank list and such. I feel like I'm spinning my wheels. I used to be able to get a job through the newspaper but those days are long gone. Guess I'll have to sign up with an agency.

3. My last 3 jobs have come through monster. Usually get interview requests in under 1 day...

Probably the line of work you're in gives better or worse results.

4. I have listed a job opening on Craig's List a couple of times and
gotten a good response and good employees, FWIW.

5. Yes, every job I've had after 1993.
But I'm in IT, so that might be the difference.

I've only taken one job through an agency because it usually means the employee takes a 15%+ salary hit right off the bat to cover the headhunter fee.

6. Yes
I have a couple of times in the past. I haven't been having as much success lately, but I think that's due to the overall downturn rather than a problem with internet job searching.

7. Yep, Craig's List, I think it was
Haunted the job listings at Craig's List, Jobdango, Monster.com, as well as the State Employment Department website, the websites for the County, the City and anywhere else I could think of. Any large companies in your area? They often have job postings on their internet site: I checked daily on Nike, Kaiser Permanente, and Sisters of Providence Hospital.

8. I used to hire through places like Monster..
No longer... Too much headache, hassle and bad hires.

I usually go through agencies now. Costs a lot more but oh so much more convenient.

11. Craigslist is the most-effective job board out there.
I found my present job through a craigslist ad.

Forget Monster and the others where you post your resume and wait for hits. They're worthless. I had my resume there for years and never got a single serious inquiry. Not a single interview.

There are a few industry-specific sites I've used that have led to job interviews (I'm in the non-profit/arts/music industry). The sites where you pay a monthly or yearly fee aren't much good, either. I find that 90% of the positions they list are also listed on free sites, and the 10% that are unique aren't anything special.

12. If you want to work for the federal government,
then http://www.usajobs.gov is the best place to search. Also, state and local governments usually have their job listings on their sites.

13. Actually, no.
I've always posted on and searched the boards, but every actual real job I've ever gotten has been because I knew somebody or somebody knew me.

16. In 1996 a company I wanted to work for posted a job opening on their web site
asking for applications by email. I applied by email and eventually, after some in-person interviews, got the job. (I have since retired.)

if that's what you mean. I have never posted my resume on a job board, though.
