Leaked document reveals North American Union water plans
According to the document, a roundtable on the
“Future of the North American Environment,” is planned for
Friday April 27 in Calgary, and will discuss “water consumption,
water transfers and artificial diversions of bulk water”
with the aim of achieving “joint optimum utilization of the available water.”

1. The North American Union...the biggest open "secret" the government doesn't want you to know.
Miraculously, they will have it all drawn up when ready, just as the Patriot was all drawn up, well before 9/11.

The North American Union means the death of our Constitution.

9. Except that you now need a passport to cross the border into
Canada. x(

Freedom to move money and resources across boarders somehow won't result in more freedom for people. Instead it will result in less.

2. These need to be open public discussions.
There's not necessarily anything wrong with discussing these topics, they are important issues that need to be discussed. Countries sharing a continent do legitimately have shared concerns about things like water, energy, and security. Discussing them doesn't necessarily mean they want to form a "North American Union".

However, they need to be discussed in a completely open and transparent forum and they need to include the public and public and environmental advocacy groups. Closed door meetings with business interests are totally inappropriate.

3. It's like NAFTA all over again
It's done in secret, then railroading through without any meaningful public input.

I wonder if Gore will do a debate against, say, Lou Dobbs?

10. Distribution of Public Assets
among corporations. Dividing the spoils like a bunch of Pirates.

The selling off of America.

In the 19th Century, crooked politicians sold most of the state lands of Maine to private lumber interests for a pittance. It's costing fortunes to buy back even a small fraction for preservation.

Deja Vu all over again.

7. Well, they won't be able to tow icebergs where water is needed by 2025
So they're getting desperate. There was a Los Angeles Commissioner/Board of Supervisors (forget which) some twenty years back suggesting the Snake River should be tapped to supply Southern California hot tubs because it was going to waste (sending all those pesky salmon downstream to the ocean). That idea was shot down, but it may be raising its head again...

8. you're NOT going to get OUR great lakes water supply.
Edited on Sat Apr-14-07 02:24 PM by QuestionAll
we have to put up with shitty winter weather year after year after year- but, at least we've got plenty of freshwater to make it worthwhile.

people who build/buy houses, neighborhoods, and cities in the FUCKING DESERT, don't have any right to cry about there being not enough water to sustain their lifestyles.

if you want water from the great lakes, you'd better plan on moving to the states that surround them.

11. That's a good point.
I could see a reverse-migration of sorts where companies go to where the water is, rather than locating in the Sun Belt.

13. Who knows?
I can't imagine Ontario letting Arizona take Lake Superior.

Let alone my fair native Michigan.

Let them drink oil!
