Celebs Contribute to Al Franken Campaign
By FREDERIC J. FROMMER, Associated Press Writer
4 hours ago

That helped Franken pull in $1.35 million in the first quarter of the year _ despite not beginning his fundraising effort until Feb. 14 _ just behind Coleman's $1.53 million.

Franken has held two fundraisers in California this year _ one in Los Angeles and one in California, said his spokesman, Andy Barr.

Other notable contributors include actors Kevin Bacon and Kevin Kline; producers James L. Brooks and Norman Lear; directors Rob Reiner and Jonathan Demme; singers Don Henley and Bonnie Raitt; and actress Jane Curtain.

He also picked up donations from cartoonist Garry Trudeau, Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels, comedian Bill Maher, Dream Works Studios CEO David Geffen and former vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro.

1. Good!
Coleman's a piece of shit anyway. He only got into the Senate by virtue of Wellstone's absentee votes not being counted on Mondale's behalf. Hell I don't believe for a second that Wellstone's plane crash was an accident. That seat belongs to someone like Al Franken. Give 'em hell, Al!

9. I had only just sent off my ballot
and the next day Wellstone was killed. I really wanted to vote for Mondale but I couldn't! I don't think Coleman has a chance with Franken.

14. I beg your pardon. Coleman didn't defeat Mondale.
You say: Coleman "got into the Senate by virtue of Wellstone's absentee votes not being counted on Mondale's behalf."

Coleman got in by virtue of ES&S's optiscans.

I can't prove it, but the pre-election polls are good evidence of that belief. This was 02 and in almost every state where the voting machines were used there were crazy upsets in favor of the Repubs who shd have been suffering a slapdown at the polls if history had been any guide and if the pre-election polling was any guide. The biggest upsets were in GA of course where Diebold counted the votes in total secrecy and announced the results without audit or recount or even the possibility of same.

16. Uh...no theft in Minnesota 2002
All the Senate ballots were hand counted in Minnesota in 2002 because it was too late to print new ballots for use in the tabulators.

17. The absentee idea is a myth
Voter turnout in MN in 2002 was 2,282,860.

The 28,000 or so vote that were either for Wellstone and not counted or were blank plus the Wellstone votes that were counted would not have made a difference.

3. No one will mourn Coleman's ouster at my house. He shouldn't be
sitting in Paul Wellstone's chair in the first place.

Go, Al Franken!

6. He grew up in Minnesota, didn't he? How could he be considered a carpetbagger?
It's his HOME state. The people of Minnesota know that. PLUS, he moved back there a year ago (?) and did his AAR show from there. He's no carpetbagger. Did you read the article? He had more donors from Minnesota than any other state. Here's another snip:

As if to pre-empt expected GOP criticism that Franken was raising "Hollywood money," his campaign put out a statement noting it had pulled in money from every state, and had more donors from Minnesota than any other state.

5. Now you know the real reason Rove wanted to oust the US attorney in Minnesota
By making up more of these fake "voter fraud" cases to suppress the democratic vote, they fully intended to do their usual fix so Coleman could steal it.

12. To the Repugs who scream "Hollywood Money!!!" we need to respond "Coleman has been
entirely backed by the White House from day 1 -- Cheney directed him to run for Senate. The only carpetbaggers in this state have flown in to campaign for the Bushbots, Coleman and Bachmann.
