A personal mandate will make people's premiums go down. That is not the point. The point is to slow the growth in the cost of premiums. This is a necessary consequence of A FOR-PROFIT HEALTH INSURANCE INDUSTRY. The only sane solution is a single-payer social health insurance program everybody pays into.
4. You're right but when the sane solution isn't realistic then whats next?
If you can't get the votes or overwhelming public support then you have to move on and get going in the right direction, even if it is just the best of poor options.
The LIE that is repeated over and over on DU, that people's costs will go down. It pisses me off. I understand that the plan the President outlined last night is the best that he thinks he can get. It's still not good enough.
