Here's the way I recall it:

1.) The White House announced that the President would address the nation's school children, by video, about the importance of staying in school and getting an education.

2.) VISCERAL reaction from wingnuts of all stripes that THIS President would DARE to speak to their children.

3.) Sensing that they needed to say SOMETHING to justify their transparent loathing of all things Obama, they turned to "GOPDOMSU" (GOP Department Of Making Shit UP), also known as "Right Wing Talkers".

4.) As in days of yore, Flush, the Manatee, Bill-O and the lesser lights of the Neo-con knee-jerk firmament soon flooded the airwaves with empty buzzwords and meaningless phrases: "socialist propoganda"; "circumventing parents"; "indoctrination"; "Hitler youth"; and, of course, "creepy".

5.) Next, a couple of days ago, the text of the speech was made public.

6.) GOPDOMSU: "It's a trick! This isn't the REAL speech---just wait!

7.) Of the PAGES of lesson plan and study material SUGGESTIONS to accompany the President's speech, the White House modified ONE SENTENCE (that I'm aware of).

8.) GOPDOMSU: "Hooray! We have them on the run! OBAMA HAS CHANGED HIS SPEECH!

9.) Today, the video was---actually played. It's chock full of "work hard" and "do your homework" and "don't quit"---advice that would have been glowingly termed "heartwarming" and "solid" and "All-American" had it been voiced by an older, paler man with an "R" after his name.

10.) GOPDOMSU: (without missing a beat) "Oh, sure! That was all well and good, but you KNOW that's not the propaganda speech he had planned three days ago! We have saved America's children with our vigilance and patriotism, but be sure of it: this Kenyan bears watching!"

Can you say "LAME", boys and girls?
Can you say "PATHETIC"?
These new words are synonyms for "Republican".

2. This seems to be web driven. I didn't hear a single person

in my family or even my community even discussing this.

Oh sure,there are crazies,there always have been,but the president's speech seemed to be a non-issue to most people.
