1. Yes, it's all about racism.
I'm glad David Shuster said it out loud, for all to hear.

21. right. he got elected by a largish majority due to racism, & now his poll numbers
are down because of racism.

racism exists.

so does political struggle.

political struggle.

we don't choose a president & then sit in our rockers for 4 years.

or shouldn't.

27. His being (half) black had nothing
to do with my voting for him. He wasn't even my first choice as the Democratic nominee. I voted for Obama in the general election because I considered him to be sincere, and I trusted him to follow through on his promises. Other people probably voted for him for the same reasons. Not everyone - few, I'd say - voted for Obama just because he's black. Geez. :eyes:

32. i didn't say he got elected because he's black. my point was, he got
elected by a decent margin & had high approval ratings for a while.

people now paint the decline as being due to some widespread "american racism".

i don't buy it. the decline in approval is 1) typical, bush had the same decline; and 2) mainly due to decreased approval by people who voted *for* him. Because they don't perceive him as doing what he promised.

The FOX News sideshow is not that important; it's funded theater.

The important thing is the falling away of the base, & I don't believe it's due to racism.

He needs to move left & give FOX the finger.

33. OK, gotcha now.
And I agree.

Racism has nothing to do with Obama slipping in the polls. Disappointed Obama supporters are the main cause of that.

2. Ya think?
It seems rather obvious, doesn't it? But there also seems to be a rather dedicated brigade haring around the forums, denying that there's any racist component to any of it, fuzzing up the issue, and dragging red herring distractions around. All of which convinces me that this kerfuffle is indeed a nearly pure product of racism.

4. One + aspect of this, and related hysterics, is it's forcing many to re-evaluate their views on....
... the exact same people who supported Bush/Cheney precisely b/c of what that admin represented. Which is to say ...many people, even Dems, for a long time were quick to offer 'sensible' sounding justifications/trivializations re the true horrific nature of the RW movements in their own country. And actually, I think some of that poorly placed good will was behind the denial many of those same people had re many of the bigger "conspiracy theories" from 99' onward - that perception that is grounded in denial of just how ugly and evil human beings can be.

11. Well, that wasn't what I was driving at. "Moderates" tend to downplay what's factually "negative."
It's that desperate attempt to preserve a sense of Status Quo, even if RW types, and their values/beliefs, dominate that SQ.

5. That's been my assumption. Glad some media guy actually came out and said it.
Clearly there are some people who don't want their kids watching an African-American President on TV in school, which would suggest that he deserved to be respected and listened to.

It's basically racism, and not even that thinly-disguised.

President Obama just might encourage the 'wrong' kinds to set goals for themselves. Certain kids are suppose to drop out and not succeed.

:sarcasm:

I can't believe I am really hearing this crap.

28. I am amazed by this...
I really can't believe the level of hatred we are seeing. I live in CA and today my son came home with a letter needing our approval so he can watch the President. Funny, they don't ask my permission before letting him watch movies at school, or get my approval on what books he reads.

Warning, offensive language to follow

For many who hate this it is simply about that uppity negro or half breed in the WH. And now they are not saying it, but expect them to use exactly that language in years to come.

I am so damn tired of some people trying to pretend it isn't what it really is.

Why all the damn pretending when this shit is so blatant and in your face.

These people are going to keep on until they are going to start something that they can't or won't be able to deal with. This is not 1950..
