I know it already has in many instances, but when do you think that it will escalate to violence as a matter of course? Where for instance you would feel like you have to take your political bumper stickers off your vehicle and not express your opinions in public for fear of reprisals. There are incidences, but do you think that there will be a time where the hatred manifests itself into more of a policy type atmosphere, where it's ongoing, daily, out in the streets and not just a bunch of wind bags on television and your occasional wing-nut in public. Something along the lines of the South in the 1950s and 1960s.

12. Repukes in the streets? In your dreams, unless ice cream trucks start selling golf merchandise.

18. Is it really that much of a stretch for you?
The degree to which the right has become unhinged since November is startling. How much worse do you think they could get in a little over 3 years time?

They no matter how many guns they own...you can still only shoot one of them at a time...any that they are horribly outnumbered.

9. Not going to happen
The only kind of violence we will ever see from the right is terrorism. And that will happen only from the most pathetic and unstable of its members. The rest of them will just whine and balk and buy tons of ammo and dream of the day they become real heroes and save the nation.

Edited on Fri Aug-28-09 04:08 PM by librechik
They're really a bunch of loners, so the violence tends to be isolated and one lone assassin/suicider type of thing. Banding together to overthrow the government? They're going to need a lot more people than any of them know.

They used to really have something when the Klan was active. But that's not likely to happen again, with today's laws.

Gandhi and MLK Jr. knew this, and make no mistake; non-violent confrontation is an intense scrap.

Something for you to think on as well.

14. A few years from now
I think the GOP has still convinced themselves that they can still support the ideas they support and still control the fate of the country. I think they feel 2006 and 2008 were aberrations, but if they lose big in 2010 and 2012 its going to start sinking in that the America they feel they know (where white conservatives run everything) is gone and being replaced by an America full of liberals, latinos and big government programs.

Once that happens, I do worry that many of these geriatric movement conservatives (many seem to be retirement age) may start deciding its better to go out in a blaze of glory rather than die of old age, since they don't have much time left anyway.

And I think minor vandalism will get worse. Destruction of bumper stickers, autos, yard signs, etc will pick up.

16. Frankly, 99.9% of them are big cowards who wouldn't do a damn thing

Posting from their mom's basement.

The reason they're so gung ho about guns is because every other part of the lives (and anatomies) are inadequate, so they need a crutch to project strength.

19. When and if...............
Any government policies actually take something of theirs (guns etc). Or if (big if) any government agencies actually went door to door inspecting xyz. Over in freeper ville they think the government under Obama will be inspecting their gardens, farms, bedrooms etc. If any of that where to ever actually happen there would be violence for sure. Short of the aforementioned they will just whine.....ignor them.

29. For sure.
Conservatives, by nature, are afraid of everything. Fear rules their lives. It's why religion has so much control over them. I think they'd have a collective stroke when they figured out that many liberals are armed, as well, and not afraid to shoot back.

17. I'd welcome it if I thought we would fight back
I agree with Malloy that something is coming soon, and there are more of us than them, and they are truly stupid. But we have shown ourselves to be so weak, timid, and unwilling to do anything except whine and keep listening to hate radio. Something should have been about the drug-addled pedophile after OKC. We just don't have the spirit.

24. Didn't FR want to rebel on the first September 11 after any health reform bill passed?
Which is the most hilariously, pathetically specific date for that kind of thing I'd ever heard, incidentally.

I do think an actual reform bill that doesn't suck would send some of them over the top, but it would probably take a presidential re-election to really push things for those among the right who aren't just armchair warriors.

25. No of course not. They don't want to go to jail.
Nobody wants to loose their job, and go to court and all that stuff. When people see their income might be effected they cool right down.

Now the individual lunatic fringe crazee, yeah, that might happen. Especially if he has already lost everything. That is why a bad economy brings these guys out of the wood work. Nothing left to loose.
