Less than two minutes after googling Van Jones, I find multiple references to assassinating Obama.
One minute, I am convinced that the birthers, the Townhall meetings and the rhetoric of people like Bachmann, Beck, O'Reilly and Limbaugh are all just pointless idiocy that should be ignored.

The next minute, I am terrified of these people and their followers.

How should I report the website that hosted the death threats?

3. Thank you! I googled "report death threats Obama" and the only articles that I saw were all about
the enormous number of death threats he is receiving each day.
So, I'm off to report these assholes.

2. These people are dangerous
Edited on Thu Aug-27-09 12:58 AM by Juche
They are stupid, but they are also scared to death of the boogymen they have invented and attributed to Obama. And many of the radical ones seem to be geriatric, which means they have less to lose as they don't have much life left anyway.

Someone who is 80 and only has a few years of life left might figure he has nothing to lose and go on a shooting spree. Again.

The GOP, in my view, consists of 2 people. Cynical manipulators and stupid/dangerous followers. Limbaugh, Rove, Cheney, Giuliani, Gingrich, etc are the manipulators and people like Beck, O'Reilly, Hannity, Palin, etc are the stupid/dangerous followers. Social dominators and right wing Authoritarians.

I'm pretty sure people like Limbaugh know they are inflaming people to the point of violence, and I honestly doubt he cares. The manipulators shout lies and misinformation, then the dumb, dangerous followers take the bait.

7. He's the Special Advisor for Green Jobs
Glen Beck did an "expose" on him the other day, calling him a communist, tying him to a bunch of 'radical' groups, etc.

9. He's Obama's special advisor (czar) for green jobs. I was investigating some of the criticism that
is being lobbed at him from the right. Claims such as he is a radical, a communist, a bad scary man, dangerously powerful, etc, etc.
I sense a new right wing talking point/ scare tactic emerging about this man.

12. Beck is going after him because he founded Color of Change
Edited on Thu Aug-27-09 01:22 AM by Beaverhausen
that is the group that is getting the advertisers to stop advertising on Beck's show. But Beck isn't telling anyone that is why he is going after him.

and of course Beck doesn't care that he left the group in 2005.

10. He's the 'Green Jobs Czar'
Van Jones is the Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality. So his power is legendary and he will soon be standing between honest Americans and the very Sun itself!!!!!!

He was also a member of a group called STORM but eventually rejected, in his words, "the cheap satisfaction of the radical pose for the deep satisfaction of radical ends." The group was made up of actual Communists and Socialists, and so Van Jones has become one of Glenn Beck's deepest, darkest nightmares recently.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Jones

In other words, he's a rising star in politics.

11. Plus, he's black. So, I'm sure Beck thinks he's racist.

15. Is there any other way to be a black radical revolutionary? /sarcasm
Beck is probably a little afraid that he might go black and then... :D

It's awful for me to suggest that Beck's deeeeeeeeeep in the closet, huh? Just terrible.

13. Please do not use the word 'czar' to refer to him
That's the term Beck is using to try and vilify Obama's advisers.

14. That's why I put it into quotes.
Edited on Thu Aug-27-09 01:40 AM by Bolo Boffin
Seriously, after I quoted his full actual title, looking at the word 'czar' in connection with that title shows how ludicrious Beck is for calling him that.

6. Hmm...there doesn't seem to be a way to send in an email. Rather, to report threats against a
protectee such as our president, I need to contact my local field office by phone.
Here is the link for the offices.
http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml
I guess I should keep it handy.

Still, I'm stuck in the same cycle.
I feel like I would be wasting their time over a bunch of cowardly idiots who are probably just talking tough.
But then again, one of these idiots could mean what he says.
I hate feeling this way.
Up and down, everyday, pretty much since the election.
I naively thought it would get better after the Inauguration, but seems to be escalating.

18. Nope
I would like to think you are right about them authorities taking action, but I doubt it. We now have an elected president instead of a dictator and the protection has dropped substantially. If the things had happened with Bush that have happened with Obama in the past few months we would of had to build a new prison to house the newly charged criminals. The difference between an unelected white guy and an elected black president.

17. It's best to go with your gut feeling. You never know, you may be saving a life
and that would be a good thing.
