A friend called me on Skype
nothing unusual, except that he was calling from Europe.

Nothing unusual there, except that he was not at an Internet cafe in a big city; he was at a camping ground in Norway where there was an Internet connection and... he was calling using his iPod!

Now, that was amazing.

1. It is, indeed
and to think that when I was a teen, a single phone in the house, wired to the wall, was the only option:)

2. I talked to my friend in Berlin for 90 minutes iPhone to iPhone
...using Skype.

The voice quality is amazing... Got disconnected twice, but who cares? It's free!!

4. It is. Still, my friend emphasized that it was not his iPhone
but an iPod.

Will have to talk again when he is back home.

8. Skype works on an iPod touch, too.
Using Wi-Fi instead of a cellular network.

10. This may seem a little freakish, but
a friend just lost his mom last week. She had been in poor health for a few years. He had a Skype connection in his parent's house so he could keep a realtime communication with them. Audio and video. I thought it was weird. But when I brought it up, he said his parents loved it.

We're a few 50 plus year olds who were early into the net. My first email was 1990, and he was surfing the net around 1994.

I think it's one of the greatest social benefits to the human race. We now have one large mind, instead of many disconnected ones.
