Idiot threatens to sue over a friend letting employees voluntarily work on labor day weekend
They are finishing up a large project and a group volunteered to work the Saturday, Sunday and Monday of labor day weekend to finish it up. They are happy to do it due to the pay for working a holiday. My friend is fine paying them for it because she wants it done with as little disruption to the normal working hours.

My friend said an employee comes into her office yesterday after finding out about it and started saying that she was discriminating against people with families. And that overtime should be offered when all employees can work it. After informing the idiot that there is always going to be people who can't work at certain times and working weekends or holidays was not required of her. She said the last thing the idiot said was if she kept allowing people to work overtime when she couldn't she was going to sue due to my friend's anti-family policies.

1. Let her sue
No attorney would take such a case.
She's also just going to hurt her relationships at the company.
Idiot.

10. please let the idiot be an idiotic RW nutjob
in a "Fire at will" state (or whatever the term is when the employer has been given the green light by the GOP to fire for ABSOLUTELY ANY AND/OR NO REASON ...)

2. If Idiot can find a lawyer crooked enough to take the case
Idiot will be laughed out of court.

ALL overtime cuts into family time, whether it's after regular work hours, on weekends, or on holidays. It's why we call it overtime.

I imagine Idiot would be perfectly happy if all overtime occurred between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM Monday through Friday.

Idiot needs to be shoved gently out the door to find a job where there is no overtime possible.

Retail calls.

6. Wow.
Is that really all there is to it?

Are there more "anti-family" policies, or just having work hours available... on weekends and holidays...?

It strains credulity. Then again, people have been getting a little whacky lately.

9. The employee sounds like she is trying to dictate when overtime
may be worked based on HER personal schedule. I don't think most companies run like that.

11. Whine! Why can't I just not work and still get paid overtime?
Yeesh. Seems like there's always someone like this.
