I just returned from
Rep. Ted Poe's "Healthcare Town Hall" held in a funeral home here in Houston this morning.
Poe railed against "government *
run* healthcare" for forty minutes despite the fact no one is proposing a government "takeover" of healthcare. He laughed about "cash for clunkers" as an example of government incompetence
(the point needs to be made that any poor handling of C4C needs to be addressed NOW as it is being cited in Conservative Town Halls across the country as an example of "government incompetence").I only spoke up twice: once when Poe said he "saw nothing in any of the bills that would prohibit paying for abortions" (I shouted "Bull$#!+" and cited "The Hyde Amendment".) Note: The mood changed slightly after that, and I feel badly now for injecting such strong negativity in what was otherwise a genial atmosphere up to that point. But the lies and distortions were getting to me.
I asked Poe, "as a critic of government run healthcare", if he wanted to "abolish the VA and put every vet in the Private System." He said, "No", but did think that *
vets should have he option* of going to any hospital they wanted (yet denies me the same same public/private choice.) Apparently, "government-run healthcare" is fine for our vets.
I hope to clip a couple of highlights, but I think someone with more "distance" (more objective then I may be at the moment) should review the video.
I am
presently uploading the entire RAW 50 minute video
here.
Please wait until about 5:30 CST for the full video to finish uploadeding!I apologize in advance for the poor "cinematography" as I was seated in a pew halfway back and lacked better camera angles. (No one else there recorded the event, so mine is the only footage.)
If anyone else checks out the video (avi), I'd be interested in any observations or sound-bites you think deserve clipping. I will post a full review of the event on my blog Monday. Thanks.
