Town Hall Shouters in Mississippi get trashed in LTTE's
My blue dog congressman Gene Taylor had a town hall meeting in South Mississippi Monday night and the usual lunatics were in attendance screaming and shouting and interupting. Three long and harshly worded letters in today's Gulfport Newspaper clearly outlined some pretty strong disgust with the shouters. Just a lil bit of good news. Not one letter in support.

7. I'll give em a smidgen of credit
their LTTE's are almost balanced but the right wing viewpoint is almost daily given lots of space.

4. Taylor isn't even for health care.
I've heard him say so on WLOX. Those are some stupid fuckers.

8. Yeah
that is pathetic. One letter writer urged them to simply read his website and find out his views on issues. They don't show up because they care, they show up because they hate.

9. which is just more evidence that this is astroturf
They are not reacting to their representative's policy or stance, they are reacting to shills like Limabugh and O'Reilly telling them what to do.

11. To these people, their philosophies
on politics are tied in with their churches as well. Right-Wing Fundie churches recruit for them as much as do Hannity, Beck, et al. Even some of our officials aren't above the nonsense. We had the National Governor's Conference here this year. Some teabaggers staged a party on the town green in downtown Biloxi. Guess who showed up? State Auditor Stacy Pickering (rel. of Chip Pickering) who spoke. And then there was Lt. Governor Phil Bryant, favored by many to be the next governor. The pundits have their effect on the people here by telling them what they want to hear, not by convincing them of their arguments.

13. I had a lot of respect for Taylor during the Brownie hearings...
but he really tries my patience the rest of the time.

14. Taylor is a DLC as one could be
He is also pissed at the party leadership for not supporting his "all perils insurance" legislation.

And he did not support Obama's candidacy - he publicly said he did not support Obama. So the WH doesn't give a rat's ass about his "all perils" legislation or any legislation he advocates or his opinions. (That is why there has been no appointment of a new US Attorney for the Southern district, no one is pushing for it and they did not ask Taylor to give them names of possible replacements. Taylor likes Lott's former chief of staff that holds the interim position.)

He is wrong about health care reform, but he is spot on about insurance reform and his proposed legislation to remove the federal antitrust exemption from the insurance industry should be supported by all the admin and all dems. http://slabbed.wordpress.com/2009/03/19/breaking-gene-taylor-introduces-legislation-to-repeal-big-insurance%E2%80%99s-anti-trust-exemption/

Unfortunately, since he publicly opposes Obama and the admins efforts, his opinions and legislation are ignored.

Health care reform is one issue - insurance reform is another vital issue, they have things in common, but they both need attention.

16. We do need insurance reform,
and it's a shame that he can't get anywhere with it. I do see why the administration won't deal with him, though. He should be for health care reform. As long as it's a good bill, I don't think he'd suffer too much politically for voting for it. He's painted himself in a corner now, though, so it looks like he'll be treading water in Congress for a while.

18. He should ask for a sit down with Obama and Reid and Pelosi
He won't, he is as arrogant as a politician can be.

The two reforms, health care and insurance, are different but they have common ties - if they address the insurance reform, they will be helping the health care reform.

5. Very nice to see
I still have hope that the American populace will be able to see through this organized on behalf of the Republican party BS.

Perhaps there will be a nice little public backlash against these RW assholes.

10. If that happened in Mississippi..?
There is hope. This could backfire big time on the Republicans in the next election. They are already counting their seats they are going to win. They may want to hold off for a bit?

12. I know one of the writers!
Great letters, Boss! Thanks for letting us know about them. It was great to read them but even nicer for me to see that at least one of my friends is still on the Coast, working for human rights. Makes me a little vaclept for Mississippi. :)

19. I haven't gotten the hang of writing letters
or getting them published. I guess calling teabaggers etc, fucking morons several times in a letter might turn off the editor of the paper.

15. You know, it does my heart good to see these letters coming out of Mississippi.
Yes, I'm guilty of leaning towards assumptions about those who live in the deep South. It is wonderful to be proved utterly wrong.

Edited on Wed Aug-19-09 11:25 AM by onenote
of the loudmouths is that their supporters can't read or write.

But that would be meanspirited so I won't.
