Bill Clinton: 'New era of progressive politics'
Former President Bill Clinton told an audience of liberal online activists Thursday evening that the nation has “entered a new era of progressive politics” that could last for decades if Democrats can pass ambitious measures such as health care reform and climate change.

1. One of the reasons repubs want health care to
fail so badly...for them its not about health care its about dems in power.

2. LOL. As if Bill has any right to lecture us on progressive politics.

I hope he's right, of course, but I don't think he'd know progressive politics if a dog with a collar that said "progressive politics" bit him on the ass.

Bill Clinton was the best Republican President since Eisenhower. He was way better than the alternatives, but definitely not a progressive.

3. He tried to be a progressive prez and Congress stopped him. No signs that Prez O
is any more progressive than Clinton was.

4. I admit that I watched Clinton very carefully in 1993 and 1994.
The Americorps act was good, progressive legislation. The gas tax was also a good idea (though inherently conservative in that it eventually helped balance the budget). Clinton did fight for health care reform, but his plan was a wishy-washy middle-of-the-road kind of thing. He didn't even try to get single payer. Obama is following in his footsteps. That is, indeed, depressing.

5. Clinton + progressive = oxymoron
Clinton talking about progressive politics is kind of like Dubya talking about elocution.
