I Don't Care If It's Stupid - I Love Maddow For Arranging The Shipment Of Baseball Gear To Iraq!
Edited on Wed Aug-12-09 08:58 PM by BlooInBloo
Yah, it boils down to overgrown kids playing a game, but whatever. Hell, it's even a game that I think is fucking stupid. But they like it, and that's good enough for me.

It so awesome of Maddow though for doing something - a little thing - that clearly shows there's more to America that bombing the fuck out of civilians. It would be cool if there were a well-endowed foundation that focused exclusively on small-scale rapid-response things of this nature, in addition to all of the ones that do superdupertakesforevertoseeanyeffect important things.

1. That was such a great piece (as was the first time she reported it) -- I'm hoping

someone posts a vid of it. Did you see it at the very end after she'd donned her Maddow jersey?? :) I like her SO much!!

Edit to remove the freep exclamation point 1 - how embarrassing.

2. Why would it be stupid? Why 'overgrown kids'? What's wrong with playing a game?
I think that it's really great what she did to facilitate this.

5. It's not stupid. The more we think things like that, the more detatched and elitist we are
One doesn't have to enjoy organized sports of course, but neither does one need to pass some sort of value judgment on it. It's not "stupid" it just is. Some people love it and some people don't.

We can certainly talk about the commercialization of sports in the US, or the creation of sports "stars" by big business as yet another thing to distract people and keep them docile and uninformed while they are fleeced. But entertainment and enjoyment just for the sake of it are really important parts of life.

Not only that, but we can do more than one thing at a time - so getting some guys some baseball equipment doesn't prevent us from focusing on "real" issues or whatever. We're more than able to do both, which means we never need to demean the former.

6. It's not stupid. I love it too!
I'm a baseball geek, and really got a kick out of seeing the Iraqi team get the first of the things being sent to them. But, I'm pretty sure I would love it even if I didn't like baseball.

Rachel, :yourock: , as does everyone who made this happen.

14. overgrown kids playing a game is a good thing
a game like baseball, or even (god forbid) soccer. :)

much better than games played with tanks and missiles.

play is good. it's cathartic, it improves health, mood, it exercises the body and brain, it develops teamwork, it helps character manifest itself, etc.

games = good.

maddow = good

16. i got a point taken away
in a TKD tourney for using "full force" in a punch to the head.

that's why TKD is a stupid sport. you can hit somebody, but only for "points" not "hard"

seriously.

well, at least it's stupid as practiced in america (and generally in many other locales) and as contested in tourneys. as a defensive tactics art, it also sucks. but the kicks are pretty.

he lived. as far as i know.
