Radio host visited by Secret Service after alleged threat against Obama

A Brooksville, Florida radio talk show host had his wig tightened by the U.S. Secret Service after an agent paid him a visit over an alleged threat against the President of the United States.

Right wing pundit Bob Haa, whose station -- WWJB AM 1450 -- also airs Neoconservative talkers like Sean Hannity and Michael Savage, says he made no threat against President Barack Obama when a listener called up to talk about his ammunition collection and antipathy toward the current administration.

"A caller calls in, and man this guy is torqued," explained listener Craig Bolton, who spoke with The St. Petersburg Times. "He says, 'Man, I'm ticked and frustrated at Obama, I'm loading up on ammunition, I'm going to be practicing.' And Haa says, 'Don't be wasting it on targets. Save it for the administration.'"

The Times had to get a paraphrase from a listener because, surprisingly, audio of the show is unavailable.

1. Well it's about goddamn time.
How many calls for violence have been made by limbaughhannitybeckdobbsetal in the last 6 months with no repercussions?

All of these fuckwits should be getting jacked up the Secret Service for treason or sedition or threats against the President. I hope is is just the beginning!

16. Time to keep the pressure up
Keep listening, it's hard not to with Clear Channel's monopoly, and report them each and every violation.

1. Curse words = FBA fines for indecency
2. Threats, calls for violence = police and secret service.
3. Racism = reports to appropriate cultural advocacy groups and possibly FBA for fines again.

Dubya gave these guys an open road, it's time to shut it down. Most federal agencies are starved for cash, they'll issue the maximum fines like candy now if they can get enough complaints. Just watch what we broadcast on this side, because the Right wingers have done this to us since day one and the biased officials will want to pretend they are "Fair".

And, btw, other things to consider:

A. Clear Channel has a monopoly most places, often 100% ownership of all TV and radio stations in smaller towns. A "Monopoly" is not 100% control, it's "Enough to have an unfair influence on price beyond supply and demand" which is why even 17% can be prosecuted and regulated...

B. Time to demand the "Fairness Doctrine" be re-instated, regardless of how "A" is settled. The media has been a large part behind the Republican and Corporate power grab. If we unhinge this train ride, they won't be able to easily gain, hold onto and do whatever they want with their power.

C. Last but not least, the "Media Carta". Except for base decency, anyone should be able to put anything on TV if they use public broadcasting or pay for ad space.

2. Visited? Visited? WTF is going on here?
If this would have happened during the cheney administration, Mr. Haa (if indeed that is his real name) would have been hauled off in handcuffs and sent directly to Gitmo. So he issues a directive to his nutty listener to shoot at the president of the United States and he gets told what, to "tone it down a bit"? The guy wasn't pushy? Well why the fuck not?

These local limpball wannabes are the lowest of the low. We have one around here that is practically unlistenable. But the message works with the terminally stupid, I guess.

5. ""What if I actually had said that?" he asked. "So what? This is America!"
Edited on Mon Aug-10-09 06:41 PM by Hansel
He stops after walking away and then turns around and says this which pretty much confirms he said it after lying about it.

Even in American sweetie, you are not allowed to use publicly owned radio air waves to advocate the killing of anyone, especially not the president. I believe it falls under the section of making terroristic threats. Also, being America gives the Secret Service the right to assess your dumb ass to see if your terroristic threats against the President of the United States of America might actually be carried out for real, moron.

My God these sniveling fools are such idiots.

6. Just out of curiosity - a question for those who would know- aren't radio stations required to keep
tapes of their transmissions? How does the FCC enforce obscenity guidelines, etc. if they have no guidelines for tape retention?

even if it means breaking out the old cassette tape machine to do it.

20. The day the awful gym shootings happened in Pittsburgh
Edited on Mon Aug-10-09 09:14 PM by RamboLiberal
That morning the RW whack job on 104.7 Pittsburgh radio was railing against Obama and his "palling" around with Bill Ayers telling his brain dead listeners that Ayers wanted to kill 25 million. He then advised his audience to "buy ammo, buy guns, learn to use them, you may need them." He then covered his wingnut butt by telling them not to start something.

I listened to his awful show's podcast to find that bit in the 2nd hour at 31-33 minutes in to his vile broadcast. Felt like I had to take a shower after listening to his filth.
