AP reported on town hall disruptions, ignored conservative strategy

August 06, 2009 12:47 pm ET — 64 Comments

The Associated Press cited an Arkansas town hall meeting hosted by two Democratic congressmen that was disrupted by protestors as an example of how "{l}awmakers across the country are encountering growing public doubts" about health care reform. But the AP did not note that conservative organizations opposed to the Democrats' proposals are conducting a campaign to pack those events with their supporters.
Organized effort by conservative groups seeks to pack town halls

1. Since Dems control every branch of goverment, the media will slant to those who are out of power.
Always happens.

8. I must not get the channels or stations you do.
Believe me, I looked and looked between 1993 and 2009 and found nothing other than GOP propaganda. You must be on some kind of "special tier" that isn't available anywhere I've been for the past 16 years.

17. Except for those times when the GOP controls every branch of government.
The corporate media just happened to be slanted against Dems then too.

18. Demonstrations against the Iraq War did not get nearly the coverage
that these very small, disorganized demonstrations are getting.

12. Like debunking the myth of the Iraq/Al Qaeda connection/immediate threat prior to the Iraq War?
Like keeping Dan Rather on CBS after his investigation into *'s AWOL service?

hmm.. don't remember that, I remember the exact opposite.

16. I think it is really more important how the local news is reporting them
Every news station and our largest newspaper are reporting them pretty fairly. They seem to be somewhat critical and taken back by the behavior of the GOP demonstrators. They seem to find it somewhat repulsive that they scream and won't let others talk and they don't like the signs. I think that people pay more attention to local news than national news and from what I'm seeing, they can't be getting too good of an impression of these folks. At least here.

The Minneapolis Star and Tribune ran a cartoon in the paper on Thursday that blasted the Tea Baggers. I can't find it out there otherwise I would post it. It showed two parents and their child in a parent-teacher conference. The teacher says "Your child is disruptive, noisy and refuses to allow others to speak. He is disrespectful and doesn't want to learn. Therefore I am giving him an "A+" for conduct." The last frame shows the parents walking away from the school with big smiles on their faces and they say to the child "Good thing your teacher is a Tea Bagger."
