Ridley Scott, DiCaprio to make "Brave New World"
http://www.reuters.com/article/entertainmentNews/idUSTRE5750WZ20090806

Ridley Scott is going back to the futurism.

The "Blade Runner" director is joining forces with Leonardo DiCaprio to take on one of the most highly regarded dystopian works of literature, Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World."

Both are producing the Universal project, which DiCaprio would tentatively star in and Scott direct. The studio has brought on "Apocalypto" scribe Farhad Safinia to write the script; he's expected to be working shortly.

1. Either it's a crappy reporter, or they're going to screw it up completely
Characters who figure in are Bernard, a lower-caste member, and Lenina, the woman with whom he is infatuated. DiCaprio would likely play Bernard, who is persecuted when the leaders of the society find his behavior antisocial.

No. NO!!!!!

Bernard is high caste, but a bit short and ugly, posibly due to a mix-up in his in vitro chemicals (high caste people have been bred to be tall and handsome in BNW). Getting a screen idol to play Bernard is the worst possible thing that could happen. It ruins the whole plot.

DiCaprio could have been a good 'John', but he's probably too old for that role now. He should either butt out of the acting, or take a role he's suitable for - Helmholtz Watson, or Mustapha Mond (you can't be too young for a part in BNW - people are meant to keep their youthful good looks for ages). Tough that they're minor parts, Leonardo.

3. The right wing will run away with this...
They simply love distopian/anti-authoritarian stories that can be morphed into anti-progressive propaganda.

They still think 1984 is their shit. It's embarassing.
