**One More Time**Unrecommend means not recommended, NOT "this doesn't belong on the Greatest Page"
and redefining words ain't exactly kosher. The button is not called "vote against this going to the greatest page", the button says, "Unrecommend". Calling it something else is just, well, an excuse.

2. You're wrong.
It means both that it's not recommended and it doesn't belong on the greatest page.

3. Yes, I'm the first person to un-recommend this
We don't need our dirty laundry aired on the Greatest Page.

So there.

4. Correct. And it cracks me up the way it's used differently by members.
For example, I read a perfectly innocent post, maybe a funny one about Orly Taitz, esq., and it's be unrecommended.

Huh. So I instinctively rec it.

I wouldn't have recommended it before the unrec feature, but I feel sorry for a member who gets an unrec for a simple post.

If anyone out there is just unreccing EVERTHING that they don't think merits Greatest Page status...

...well, that would just be silly!

BTW, the OP showing where all the Townhall Disruptors meet up deserved Front Page Status.

For the record, I only unrec posts that I think are flamebait or divisive, but not alertable.

:patriot:

5. Agreed
And it's hilarious that someone's making such a big effort to redefine it. If you're unrecommending, you're doing it anonymously, so who cares what your reasoning is.

7. Kudos to a slap in the face of the correctness police
who think they can decide what's appropriate content on DU. They can kiss my wrinkled old hairy pimpled white ass in Macy's window.

And will Macy charge us for the kiss?

8. Functional difference?
Not recommending something has the effect of limiting its ability to find its way onto the greatests page. So exactly what is the functional difference between the two?

9. So, then, it doesn't mean "not recommended," it means "unrecommended."
Edited on Tue Aug-04-09 03:11 PM by damntexdem
And if enough unrcommend, then it's not going on the Greatest Page.

But I could have lived with one less time rather than one more time, so I unrecommended.

15. "not recommended" is expressed by not recommending
Unrecommend could very well mean "this does not belong on the greatest page"

20. not recommend, was the previous feature
Edited on Tue Aug-04-09 05:19 PM by G_j
one simply refrained from recommending.

I think it sucks to see any well written, researched, progressive articles or news items in the negative.
It's a constant reminder of a certain nastiness which is always lurking.
