Birthers latch on the forged birth certificate

By David Weigel 8/3/09 8:50 AM On Sunday night, the online community of “birthers” erupted after Orly Taitz released a photo of a “Kenyan birth certificate” for Barack Obama. The “birther” movement quickly divided between the credulous — people who believed that the new certificate was genuine — and skeptics who believed that their movement was being taken for a ride.

This story needs a little bit of prelude. Last year, as the bloggers at ObamaConspiracy remember, Philip Berg included an obviously forged birth certificate with his lawsuit against the Democratic National Committee. (The certificate was Canadian and signed by “Dudley Do-Right.”) Foreign birth certificates, unlike, say, American passports, are prime targets for forgery — few people stateside know what the real ones look like, and the penalties for forging them are basically non-existent.

Funny how the birthers believe this to be real, but believe that the real one is a phony. It is bizarre

One comment is: "rickahyatt said:
"That his name, "Barrack Obama," means "Antichrist," in ancient Hebrew in the Book of Luke, according to a religious researcher can be seen at this YouTube video on World Net News."

Even Rove thinks the it to be a phony.

1. my question to them is why we should believe that kenyan fake, when they don't believe the HI bc
I know logic is not their strong suit, but, really, why isn't such a question directed to them.

4. Logic is actually a foreign concept to them.
They think we must be commies, what with all our fancy logic and whatnot.

Typical fools' thought process: Conclusion comes first, then work on the justifications for it.

They think Republicans are entitled to the presidency regardless of the will of the majority. Well if you look back to 2000 and 2004 I can see how they developed that expectation. Now they think they got cheated last November by the sinister concept of majority rule, and are trying to 'make things right' by any means whatever.

6. Because...
They believe a third-world country has better record keeping standards than a US state.

They also believe that citizenship laws in Kenya and Indonesia over-ride US citizenship laws.

In other words, they believe because they WANT to believe.

2. Maher was right last Friday, there is NOTHING
that will get through to a "birther." He was right that these silly things from Whitewater to the Clinton "death list" through this "birther" nonsense is a result of dummies talking to dummies and spreading it. What he missed was that the dummies doing all the talking are on AM radio and writing Astroturf emails.

Just like Whitewater was exploited and expanded and resulted in the bogus impeachment against Clinton, this nonsense also has that potential. However it can only happen if the GOP takes Congress back in 2010 and the only way that can happen is if the Democrats wimp out on health insurance reform.

Until then, the best and really only weapon in our arsenal is ridicule.

5. Agreed. This could hurt Obama in 2012.
