A DU health care temperature test RE: funding, A.K.A. "The top 2% don't care if you live or die"
Edited on Sun Jul-26-09 07:46 PM by Amerigo Vespucci
I'm just curious regarding President Obama's comments RE: the top earners helping to fund health care because they are part of "a community" and having healthy members of that community makes for a better community.

I've KNOWN members of the top 2% club...my dad WORKED for one.

When my MOM died, my dad's boss told me that I was "sitting on my lazy ass, wallowing in self pity over my dead mother."

So I want to know "how" and "why" anyone here might feel that the top 2% has any interest in you other than wiping their ass with you.

I cannot believe for a moment that the 2% club gives a rat's ass about any "community," unless it's a country club.

1. For the most part, you're right.
I've known a few that were human beings, but about 99% of the ones I've met were assholes.

2. Do you think the Pharoahs gave rats ass if the slaves died?
They only gave a shit about their egos.

3. I'm just making sure we're all on the same page...
...because when I read President Obama's remarks about the 2%-ers kicking in for health care because it would make the community a better community, my immediate reaction was "What makes you think this is even remotely on their radar?"

MOST of the 2% club has a clear and unrepentant sense of disgust for anyone who hasn't made it into the club. The rich really do enjoy pissing on anyone who is not rich.

4. I usually don't listen to the words after a politician says 'because' because
they're usually just political bs.

5. I cannot, in good conscience...
...take a swipe at President Obama for making the remarks.

I also cannot...as a reasonably intelligent and rational adult...believe that he believes that the top 2% have any interest in "stepping up" to help those who are less fortunate.

The top 2%-ers have a term for those who are less fortunate:

"suckers."

6. I don't care about Prez Obama's becauses. I just want him to do the right thing.
I think he's trying to do just that.

8. Yes, he's doing the right thing by reaching out...
...and I don't hold him accountable for the results.

I've got to believe that he knows.

And reaching out, despite of what you "know," is a quality of a great leader.

I'd like to think I'm wrong. Having personally known members of the 2% club, I don't believe for a minute that I am.

7. Where does the top 2% start at, is it 500,000 a year, a Million dollars a year?
I agree with your statement but I just wonder what dollar amount starts the top tier.

9. I think it's time for "The "L" Curve" again...
Never mind the top 2%, try the top 0.01%

http://www.lcurve.org/

The US population is represented along the length of the football field, arranged in order of income.

Median US family income (the family at the 50 yard line) is ~$40,000 (a stack of $100 bills 1.6 inches high.)

--The family on the 95 yard line earns about $100,000 per year, a stack of $100 bills about 4 inches high.

--At the 99 yard line the income is about $300,000, a stack of $100 bills about a foot high.

--The curve reaches $1 million (a 40 inch high stack of $100 bills) one foot from the goal line.

--From there it keeps going up...it goes up 50 km (~30 miles) on this scale!
