My co-worker went bankrupt over medical bills

We have good union negotiated health insurance. His wife has been getting treatment for cancer for over two years. What don't conservatives understand about this?

3. The latest estimate -
I just heard this yesterday - is that 2/3 of all personal bankruptcies are due to medical bills.

Does anyone understand what is happening in our country?

This is far too important for people are stupid as Senators and Congressmen to handle. I swear, this is going against everything that I believe in, but it's getting to be time for the government to take over EVERYTHING, and turn the Capitol and the attendant office buildings into housing for the homeless here in the DC area.......................................

18. If you ever go to the cesspool
and try and debate them you will quickly realize they use the "personal responsibility" excuse even for health problems. Seeing people argue to let people die b/c of their diet or lack of exercise. . . a shocking moment when I realized they have NO empathy for any stranger that is already born.

4. Will the Obama bill stop that?
or is it business as usual?

6. It should help
And there is no Obama bill. The bill is YOUR Senators and Congressman's bill so if you don't like it, bitch at them.

The current House and Senate bills both have provisions to cap out of pocket expenses and there are no annual or lifetime limits.

5. Republicans?
Hell there are people posting on this board that think things are just hunky dory and see no need for change - and don't even get me started on those turncoat Blue Dogs - they are every bit as guilty as any republican.

8. Who?
I haven't seen any posts that say there is no need for change. There are a handful of people who want to keep their private insurance, but other than that, every post I've seen supports change of some sort.

What can go wrong?

13. Someone with 25 posts?
I don't take anything seriously from a poster with that low of a count. I'll wait and see how long she/he lasts.

15. Mr. 25 posts and "nothing to worry about"?
Edited on Tue Jul-21-09 10:23 PM by Raster
The poster is a liar, and quite frankly, probably here to dis-inform.

Many, many people in this country are going bankrupt, losing homes, losing their lives because they cannot afford healthcare or have inadequate healthcare. The corporations that have made multi-billions off of the suffering of those persons will do ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING to keep their gravy trains going. Question ANYONE that says we don't have a problem. I guarantee their motivations are not honorable and their words are not the truth.

It only has to happen to you once, or to someone you love for you to see EXACTLY what is going on.

7. Medical bills are the # cause of personal bankruptcies here.
It's been that way for years. Your co-worker, unfortunately, has plenty of company. :(

16. It's not that they don't understand. It's that they don't care.
I'm sorry to hear about your co-worker's situation. :-(
