3. We took the Press Telegram when I was growing up...
I did deliver the Herald American when I was 12 or so.

I was never good enough to deliver the Press Telegram! ;)
(Bike and bike rack weren't sturdy enough for the PT)

4. I had a neighbor who had done it for years, he put me up to it.
I started at 13. The sad part was that I was SO shy that I'd only collect from enough of my customers so as to pay the guy who dropped off the papers at my house. After a few "come back friday" and "MY PAPER WASN'T ON THE PORCH ONCE LAST WEEK", I got scared of my customers. Soooo... I never made a single penny delivering the newspaper.

And Sunday? Sunday I had to make FOUR trips to get them all delivered. That damn paper was so big that I could only fit about fifteen in my bag at once.

5. I delivered the "Herald American" twice a week...
Edited on Sat Jul-18-09 04:47 PM by KansDem
Thursday and Sunday mornings.

But I know you guys delivered the PT seven days a week!

I knew one fellow who made upwards (if I remember correctly) of $60 a month! Big bucks for a 13-year-old during 1965-66!

2. "Lard of the Dance" comes to mind
The Simpson's episode where Homer and Bart steal grease from Krustyburger and then try to steal Groundskeeper Willie's "retirement grease" from the school cafeteria but wind up getting the grease splattered all over the kids at the school dance.

A classic episode.

Grease spill closes part of Long Beach Blvd.
By Tracy Manzer, Staff Writer
Posted: 07/17/2009 12:13:16 PM PDT

LONG BEACH - The parking lot of a Downtown McDonald's was turned into a slimy skating rink early Friday after a grease storage system backed up into the lot and was then hosed down the street by shop employees.

Cars were swerving and people were slipping as they tried to dodge the rancid goo, but no one was injured, authorities at the site said Friday morning.

Long Beach Firefighters and Police were called to the restaurant, at 640 Long Beach Blvd., shortly after 9 a.m. and arrived to find the roughly 5 to 10 gallon spill had spread out across part of the parking lot and into the road, running south down to the intersection at Sixth Street.

9. Thanks!
rancid goo

I stopped eating at McD's in the early 1970s. I know the other fast-food places are probably no better, but I just associated McD's with, well, "rancid goo" more so than the others.
