White House ‘dirty tricks’ torpedo Palin
From The Sunday Times
July 12, 2009

Sarah Baxter in Washington

Sarah Palin, the former vice-presidential candidate, has accused members of President Barack Obama’s administration of a dirty tricks campaign to derail her political career.

Palin’s bizarre announcement that she would quit her post as governor of Alaska on July 26 stunned political friends and foes and has been greeted with derision by a growing number of prominent Republicans. Some conservative insiders have accused the charismatic mother-of-five of succumbing to “paranoia”.

<snip>

According to Stapleton, the barrage of ethics charges against Palin was typical of the hardball tactics of Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s combative chief of staff, as described in the book The Thumpin’, about how Emanuel steered the Democrats to victory in the 2006 congressional elections. “It’s how they operate,” Stapleton said.

The White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said: “The charge is ridiculous. From my vantage point a lot of the criticism she seems to be getting is from self-inflicted wounds.”

1. In fairness, standing by and watching them sink beneath the waves could be construed...
as a "dirty trick".

17. Not almost. She was. Here's a pic.

I can understand if it sounds like an urban legend when you first hear it.

They changed the name when she was appointed to the Bush Jr. regime.

6. What do you do, Sarah? Lie awake at night trying to figure out who else
you can blame? Sheesh! I doubt Rahm has much interest in the self-destructing Sarah Palin. Don't flatter yourself so.

8. she's mad because the her political oxygen is being shut off slowly
and her persona will slowly be suffocated until she is relegated in 10 years to a People magazine "Where are they now?" segment.

9. Karl Rove.
I know I sound like a broken record, but this has the hallmarks of a Karl Rove attack. Language, modus operandi, personal attack, diversion from the issues.

Rove has the benefit of using Sarah Palin to do his work for him.

And the message not only attacks the President but also Emanuel and the Administration in general.

All this is bullshit and Palin just is too dumb to come up with this strategy.

10. I have met people like her in my own life.
They are lazy, have mediocre minds, and get by on a certain charm and attractiveness. She is typical of someone who has been able to skate by without ever having to any real hard work. Once she was put on the national stage she was in over her head. Most people weren't interested in her cutsie schtick. It is the kind of thing that happens when people go on to a graduate program, a job, a situation where they simply are overwhelmed and unable to keep up. She reached her level of competency when she was the Mayor, after that she didn't have what is takes.

11. Again with the pity party. Palin accepts no responsibility for
any of her actions. This is typical of the Repug Neocon mindset.

I predict Palin to become more virulant in her speech. She doesn't have the common sense enough to know enough is enough. She will continue to help destroy the Repug party!

12. ...this calls for another letter from the desk of Barack Obama, Professional Badass.
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Governor Palin,

I've read your latest accusation that me and my administration are responsible for the derailment of your political career.

My chief of staff wanted to write this letter, but I politely declined because I knew the language he used would be a lot less polite than I'd be inclined to use. Anyway, I'm writing to deliver some very important truths. I'll use small words so you can follow along easier.

I was elected President in November of 2008 and since then I have been under siege from office-seekers, friends of the Democratic Party, and my political opponents 24 hours a day. I have an economy in shambles to fix, two wars to manage, and a fucked-in-half healthcare system to overhaul. On top of all that, I have a bitchy media who flips out if I so much as take a shit while leaning the wrong way on the pot, a base in the Democratic Party that's on me like cheese on pizza every day, and political enemies who have decided that they're no longer going to conceal their true motives in opposing my initiatives. My staff spends every day of their lives simultaneously trying to corral our friends, placate the media, and fend off our opponents.

My point is this: I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU. I DON'T THINK ABOUT YOU. AT ALL. EVER. YOU ARE INCONSEQUENTIAL TO ME. YOU ARE MERELY THE GOVERNOR (soon to be former governor) OF THE STATE OF ALASKA.

MY STAFF DOESN'T THINK ABOUT YOU EITHER. THEY (AND I) HAVE A COUNTRY TO RUN AND A BAJILLION PROBLEMS TO FIX. WE HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO THAN SIT IN A ROOM AND THINK OF WAYS TO "MAKE" YOU STICK YOUR FOOT IN YOUR MOUTH. Rahm Emanuel's a hell of a politician and wrangler of votes, Governor, but he's not a fucking evil wizard with the power to control minds.

Get this through your abnormally thick skull, Ms. Palin--your wounds are all self-inflicted. It is not our fault your daughter had sex before marriage and got pregnant because you don't believe in birth control. It is not our fault you and your Two Minutes Hate rallies scared every moderate and independent voter in the country into our camp. It is not our fault you decided to blow $150K of McCain campaign money on clothing for your crappy family. It is not our fault your Down's Syndrome child has been *gasp!* photoshopped by people on the internet. It is not our fault that you are facing so many ethics inquiries it would make Richard Nixon blush. It is not our fault that David Letterman made a bad joke and you used it as an opportunity to explode with impotent rage so the spotlight you crave like a heroin addict craves a fix would shine on you once more.

In short, it is not our fault that your crappy sense of timing, politics and inability to appeal to anyone not to the ideological right of Adolf Hitler and David Duke torpedoed your political career.

Have fun in the dustbin of irrelevancy, and rest assured--we won't be thinking about you then either.

Sincerely yours,
President Barack HUSSEIN Obama

14. Yes, it's a fine letter, but I think Obama should follow the example of Bill Baxley
And put out a letter like this,

Dear Ms. Palin;

My response to your recent complaints is - kiss my ass.

Sincerely,
Barack HUSSEIN Obama
President of the United States of America

18. Rahm stayed up at night worrying about Sarah Palin
Worrying that somehow she would self destruct before she single-handedly destroyed what was left of the GOP by being their nominee in '12.

19. What she doesn't mention -
maybe she hasn't noticed it, or, more likely, it screws with her intended "victim" schtick - is that the majority of those ethics complaints against her were brought by admitted conservative Republicans.

I am all for letting her run wild. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to watch someone fly up her own ass, and I, for one, am not going to miss it ............................
