They do not know the joy of giving with no thought or prospect of repayment.
In their ignorance, they suffer Gibran's "unquenchable thirst". ("Is not dread of thirst when your well is full, thirst that is unquenchable?")
Despite all the evidence to the contrary, they appear to believe that they will, indeed, be allowed to "take it with them".
The only "Golden Rule" they recognize is an insurance company.
As moral pygmies with deformed consciences, they deserve our pity but not our acceptance. We should endeavor to live our lives so as to make conservatives increasingly ashamed of themselves---and lonely, very, very lonely.
