All afternoon Farrah was the top, top story.

Now this evening, whoosh...

Will an even bigger star die by midnight to erase MJ?

9. Springsteen...............
Biggest star in the world, and still recording, still touring, still out there working for political candidates, donating to the poor, the hungry, the homeless, raising three normal kids, having a successful marriage, and walking the streets without an entourage, driving his own car, and living a normal life.

Jacko created his image, and then was devoured by it, poor thing.

You must be careful what you wish for ....................

Edited on Fri Jun-26-09 01:38 AM by Occulus
Recall when he got hit while taking a walk, and how huge that news was for a while?

Stephen Hawking could be a possible second choice.

edit: this is sort of a tasteless subthread, isn't it? I feel kinda dirty now.

My apologies.

10. Damn, that Karl Rove!
By the way, with Jeff Goldblum it was a rumor. With Harrison Ford, it was just a lot wishful thinking.

18. I think people under 30 might not know who she was. Remember she was popular in
the 1970s and then only for several years. She did have a lot of dignity and I wish her family well.

21. true. I showed my 20 y.o. daughter her famous poster
today and explained about her enormous popularity. She really had no idea. MJ, however, shocked her. SHe's known his music since she was 2 y.o.

24. Farrah did some fine acting
in The Burning Bed and Small Sacrifices in the '80s and in The Apostle with Robert Duval in 1997. I think she was somewhat underrated as an actress, although she did receive awards for those roles. I'm saddened that she's gone, but she handled her final illness with dignity.

25. That came across my mind, too.
I wish she had her own day, rather than become a side note.

It reminds me of when Princess Diana and Mother Theresa died at the same time. Mother Theresa became the side note.

27. She was a pretty face.
He was an artist who wrote music, song, danced, and performed for millions. His music is iconic.

Farrah made a famous poster, a bad television show, and a few halfway-decent made for TV movies.

On balance she was not terribly significant.

28. She got plenty of publicity before her death including..
a two hour special.

Regardless she is an icon. MJ may have swept her from the headlines, but her legacy will be long lasting.

over her death. We lost 2 American icons today and I am sad about both of their deaths. May they R.I.P.

34. I really didn't feel that bad about it.

Farrah was a great and talented person. Her death is very sad. But she wasn't on the same planet as Michael Jackson when it came to talent, influence, and star power.

I think the coverage is just about right.

100 years from now nobody is going to know who Farrah is. They WILL know Michael Jackson!
