DU, the online Entertainment Tonight!
or

The New and Cooler Gong Show Discussion Group.

or

The I don't want to take a hard look at what's wrong with the Democratic Party and the Democratic majority Congress and the President's policies too closely Group.

Is it really all about finding dirt, net spamming the dirt, enjoying the high of "we got the hypocrite" and looking for the next indiscretion?

Sad.

1. I agree, but also know I have that fault also.
There are big things to work on, and going on in congress, we might want to refocus on those important issues. We can't let our voyeuristic tendencies distract us from the battles at hand.

4. I hear ya.
But these situations always seem to take up so much more space and interest than the real political issues.

Political hypocrisy is not new. Infidelity is not new, nor relegated to the R's.

So gossipy.

some of us can be involved in more than one thing at a time.

is about the Republican Gov's affair. It's the lead on MSM and the majority of threads at DU.

Not my narrow view.

10. DU (Entertainment) Tonight!
That's what it is. Gossip. Voyeurism about people because they are on "the other side."

DUers go to all kinds of lengths to "expose" their political enemies.

You seem to have missed the irony that this is NEWS in the MSM!

Why is this news?
How does this affect your life?
Why is this distraction given so much net space?

12. I enjoy video games, too..........
So what does that take away from my real job of writing? Or being a parent? Or working as a lawyer? Or doing what I can to get my candidates elected?

Why is it news? Gee, that's a deep question, but let me try to explain it to you - it's "news" because it's something that never happened before, and it involves someone diametrically opposed to everything I hold dear politically. So, that's why it's "news."

How does this affect my life? Oh, you dear child, it gives me a great deal of pleasure to see a smug, sanctimonious, judgmental man in power, a man who has made decisions that have affected so many lives, a man whose public pronouncements have clearly damned those who behaved in ways of which he did not approve, brought to his knees by his having committed the very acs he took to task. My old Italian grandmother warned "You spit up in the air, it lands in your face." I wrote a novel based on that old saying, so that's how it affects my life.

Why is it given so much net space? Gee, I don't know. How much net space do you think it should get, and when you arrive at that determination, maybe you just shouldn't read the things that are taking up that net space, all that stuff of which you don't approve?

I don't think it's irony that this Sanford matter is news in the MSM. I think perhaps you don't understand the nature of "news."

That said, I'm done with educating you. I trust my answers were satisfactory, but I get the weird sense that they're awfully inadequate in your eyes, as is so much that look down upon.

Enjoy your high horse, and have a nice slide down ...................................

13. Give me a freaking break...
A Conservative Gov had an affair, got caught. This is not a life-changing experience for anyone except for his wife, kids and constituents. (Remember Gov. Bill Clinton?)

I'll try to get past all of your personal attacks and respond.

I don't know how old you are, but NEWS used to mean events that affected many people, not just a select group. News used to mean information about jobs, the economy, the weather, the war, you know, stuff that affects everyone.

Now on the other hand, there's gossip. The internet and especially this new twitfuck thing is all about the reporting immediately of events, including someone's personal indescretions. Yes, I am aware of how the Conservative Republicans are hypocritical beings who have lots of Karma to pay for.

News and GOSSIP are NOT the same thing. Well, yeah, I guess today they have become fused. And man, if you want to educamate me on what REAL news is, I guess I'm jus dum. U no bes.

Ever heard this: What goes around, comes around?

You don't approve? Don't read it. But I find it hilarious that you're so busy taking to task people who have interests other than yours. All that energy, and for what? I don't get the sense that it makes you feel better, but that goes with your territory as a grouch, I suppose.

There's nothing more uninteresting than a common scold........................

How brave of you.

(Note: I don't alert, so don't blame me.)

Funny how those dependent upon the Gossip Route call others "scolds."

You seem to have made this personal. About my "approval." When you know it is not about that at all. My OP was about the tone of DU. Yet you took lots of words to smear me. Cute, and maybe some folks will buy it.

You are absolutely right that everyone is free to read or not read DU.

I chose to comment about the tone of DU since it has changed drastically over the years.

15. SO are we suppose to issue a pass and/or ignore.. especially
those that speak from their visible and highly influential political positions... we are to ignore these oh so virtuous leaders... these very same people that oppress and would and do deny equal rights to gay people everywhere? The very same rights that he has? And not only that THEN these people have the unmitigated GALL to say that the sanctity of marriage would be destroyed if gay people are allowed to marry? Then he dares to stomp, devalue and destroy his own marriage? Values his ass! What a piece of fucking work he is!

I think not... and as someone else noted most people on DU are more than capable of concentrating on more than just one issue at a time.

Besides it's our DU duty:patriot: to smash republicans when they offer themselves up on a nicely garnished platter. Dig in, dinner is served:9

It's sad that the DUty is to focus only on outing republicans.

Is DU only about that now? Outing folks?

How are our major problems in America changed because we know this information? We have (once again) hard evidence that many socially conservative Republicans are liars and hypocrites. So what?

How does this change the federal laws about DODT, etc.?

But I guess it won't stop you from making it look like I'm anti-something or other.

The salaciousness of the story is why people look, and click... money.

No change in policies from Democrats, lately, but hey, let's go personal.

What issues are most important right now?

The economy?

The environment?

Health Care?

Ending the War Machine? (my number one issue)

No. DU wants to talk about some freaking insignificant state's governor's sex life. Like it has any affect at all on the real world that affects us all. Fuck, do you not know how many asshole governors are anti-choice?

I'm on your side.

32. Here are your own words and I quote
"It's sad that the DUty is to focus only on outing republicans.

Is DU only about that now? Outing folks?"

Not sure how you can deny saying it when you did but there it is for all to see.... but anyway you seem to be not understanding a major part of the bigger picture here and you can have all the temper tantrums you wish to have and be as frustrated and angry at me as you like for all the good it's done for you so far.. by all means go right ahead. And BTW I don't MAKE you look "anti-something" you do a fine job of it all on your own.

I know we're on the same side, I get that (I think) HOWEVER not letting these hypocritical fucks get away with their shit is only one problem I have with them and they have EARNED the right to have their feet held to the fire.

EQUAL RIGHTS is an issue that IS very important to me and should be for you too, hardly insignificant as you might unknowingly and indirectly imply, as is ending the war machine along with many, MANY other issues but here is one main difference between you and I (/tapwiththeolcluestick)is I feel I have no business telling you what I think you should be focusing your attention on and what you shouldn't. See! So what's your point? You somehow think me, and obviously many others, incapable of handling more than ONE thing at a time?
heh
Now it's... silly you!

9. There are nowhere near 100,000 people here,
142,000 people have registered since 2001, only a small fraction of that are still here. (I wish Skinner & Co. would publish current numbers from time to time)

And today the innumerable, repetitive and content free posts on the idiot Governor are drowning everything else out, including the reported wholesale slaughter of Iranians by their government, the bombing deaths of dozens of Iraqis, etc.

It's just frustrating to live in an "American Idol" nation and have our refuge of near sanity overwhelmed by the same idiocy we have to deal with IRL.

26. These threads are so patronizing.
Here's some of the issues I've read about here in the last 24 hours;

Fox News and the FCC
Iran/Neda and the relation to the non-release of the torture photos
Gay rights
Mental health issues
The U.S. airstrike in Pakinstan that killed 60
The possible switch of Rep. Mike Castle to the Democrats
The rally against mountaintop coal mining
The doctor who was stationed in Antarctica in 99 with breast cancer dying
Health insurance
More violence in Fallujah possibly delaying troop withdrawel
Helen Thomas and Obama at the presser today
Woman's rights
Kerry talking about US energy independence and it's relation to Iran
A 35,000 year old flute made of bones found in Germany
Sharks being in danger of extinction

It's not that hard to find this stuff if you really want to. And if it's so sad here, why come back to tell us? What does that say about you? Why not just go find a site that gives you all the hard hitting news your big brain so obviously craves? Don't blame us because you're too damn lazy to look around the place, and see only what you want to see to pass your superior judgment.

Sad, indeed.
