Iran: It's not about you.
Some Westerners have been driving themselves into a narcissistic frenzy over events in Iran, blind to the contradictions in their own behavior. John McCain's outrage over the tragic death of "Neda," a young woman who might have died under American bombs in his alternate reality, is merely one case in point. Suddenly the "clash of civilizations" crowd is finding new enthusiasm for an Islamist political party.

The President's remarks today went as far as they could wisely go, but the opportunists and fantasists will both say it wasn't enough.

RJ Eskow nails it.

or some of us, people only become human and real when they give us an opportunity to play out our own ambitions or fantasies. That covers public figures like McCain. But it also includes bloggers who think they're commando superheroes because they're coloring their websites green and cut-and-pasting Tweets from Teheran.

To the virtual barricades, comrades!

Seriously though, he's right. Having known real Persians who've come here to escape, no they weren't wealthy either, the endless parade of "we caused this" posts even here on DU is sickening and maddening.

4. I agree, people thinking some intelligence organization caused it all
The problems that got people upset are owned by the Iran government, and the claims for votes to be counted belong to the people of Iran.

And it is not a sporting event we are watching, people get hurt, and lives of generations are at stake. But it is understandable how people want to help, although I think it would be nice if we could learn about situations all around the world, including America and give that the same attention. It seems there are things to do everywhere, and the ones in our own backyard we can make a big difference if we get involved.

And thinking everything revolves around the USA seem to devalue the actions of people that decided to stand up for themselves elsewhere around the world. They are choosing their future.

It is a ego problem to think everything revolves around the USA, that same problem has caused us problems in diplomacy in the past.
