Web 2.0, social networking, twitter, facebook and all other forms of internet nonsense.
Edited on Sat Jun-20-09 12:05 PM by arcadian
Let's face it. It's just a bunch of people bickering back and forth and showing kitten pictures to one and other sitting in a darkened room by themselves with the warm and fuzzy glow of a monitor illuminating the face of a person who doesn't see much sunlight. It's not some miracle of communications that will bring forth a new age.

Oh yeah. And you will die alone, we all do. :D

1. To some people, it definitely is, and honestly there's nothing wrong with that
As a musician, I've had a lot of people come to shows and download my stuff because they can preview things online.

Also, as someone with many out-of-state friends, I can keep up with them if I choose, and meet new people also. Furthermore, as I am moving out of state in a week, those wastes of time have helped me immensely with networking jobs and apartment hunting. I've gotten better informed with current events and rallies through sites like this, as well as facebook, etc.

And like I said, even those kitten pictures and whatnot can be a nice way to brighten the day. Sure, I also have a fairly full life offline, but I don't really see the point of disparaging people who go online for things, nor does the irony escape me of someone doing so while on a message forum like this.

Or maybe you're being sarcastic?

FWIW, I am not a fan of Twitter, but ... I just don't use it then. I don't care if others do.

:D

7. Hey while you weren't watching it has brought forth a new age
Do you still go to the bank during banking hours on your lunch break to deposit your paper check? Do you still go to libraries during daylight hours to do all your research for that homework paper you're writing? Do you still solely write letters to your far away friends and relatives just to keep in touch? At work do you have a computer at your desk? How much of your job is done on it?

We are in a new age already. Look around.

20. I go to the bank to use that newfangled think you get cash out of cause
there's only one teller who asks you for your debit card anyway. And I go to the library to read good books, not to do research.

8. You really don't know what you're talking about.
It's the next step in human consciousness.
It's instant global consciousness.
It's as important as the post-pagan, self-centered consciousness that Jesus and Buddha ushered in 2000 years ago.
It's the ability to know what is happening anywhere on the planet to anyone at any time.
People who don't get this will be left in the dust pretty soon.
It's still in it's infancy, so it's crude, but it's developing quickly.
Step in, or step aside...

15. Tell me what you mean by "left in the dust"?
The only thing I see is an avenue for big corporations and government to control the message and keep people passive.

25. Left in the dust means...
You are not going to understand the world as it is.
Kinda like Republicans.
You'll always be looking back to the "good old days" when things were "simple" and miss what's happening in the real world.
It means that you won't be a part of the new order, the new consciousness and there will be implications in the long run.
You might not care about those implications, and that's OK.
But someday, you won't be able to get a job if you don't understand how these things work, kinda like today if you don't have basic computer skills, all but the menial jobs are open to you.
That might not affect you.

I'm 46, and live in an area full of young hipsters, and we understand each other. They see me as kinda old and kinda cool, and the 23 year olds that I'm friends with are the future. I don't ever want to be the guy to tell them to "get off my lawn," and if we understand each other, it will never come to that.
Social networking tools makes my job easier, (real estate) and I'm pretty good about filtering out the bullshit.

I also like pictures of kitty-kats!

I'm 48. How old are you?

I'm sorry you don't care for social networking. It is a shame that you're unable to envision how these new means of communication enable people to contact, organize and break the stranglehold the powers-that-be have over we little people.
