6. Whoah. That was insane. I wouldnever have managed to be that nice about it.
Second or 3rd e-mail in I would have said "Fuck this, I am going apeshit on this tight-ass."

Gotta say, though, I'm not sure I really liked using a guy in a wig for this. I'm usually not offended by mild sexism in the service of humor, but there was something kind of mean about that. Not to her, but the idea that she had to be ugly, or butch. I've found that the real trolls in an office environment are often the most attractive people there.

Elizabeth's respondent apologized most sincerely, and even acknowledged that his overfamiliarity was inappropriate. The proper action, of course, would have been to forward the e-mails to her boss, not the media. But "Elizabeth" gets no sympathy points from me--just some LONG overdue vacation time.

I'm not sure I really liked using a guy in a wig...(T)here was something kind of mean about...the idea that she had to be ugly, or butch.
I didn't like it, either--but for only for about minute. The uglier Elizabeth's responses got, the more fitting it seemed that we were seeing her inner ugliness as well.

9. Reminds me of Walter Payton, except Walter had class.
He was a guest on a Chicago sports radio station one day. One of the sportscasters referred to him as "Wally." Walter said, "Don't call me Wally." From then on, he was Walter "Dont't Call Me Wally" Payton on their show.

10. I thought it was really sad, actually. "Don't call me Liz" is plainly in distress.
She's overly emotional and likely mentally ill. Professional help is probably overdue. She might post here on DU every now and again! That writing style seems familiar.

And what was with the blonde wig and the lipstick and the five o'clock shadow? Why was that needed to tell the tale? That "Secretary-zilla" suggestion was more "FauxSnooze" than "Liberal/progressive." I didn't think that was too amusing--I thought it was some rank and childish sexism. They could have told the story with fingers on a keyboard, and not done the lousy drag outfit to suggest a hulking, angry woman.

Now Jim McDermott has to deal with this--because "Liz" is his office manager who plainly has a mental problem.

13. why is this woman's business email on the nightly news? she's not a public official.
she's committed no crime against the public.

it's up to her boss to deal with it, not olbermann.

low class.

14. Because "Elizabeth" works for a public official
Edited on Fri Jun-19-09 10:31 AM by rocktivity
because she is probably paid out of public funds, because "don't call me Liz" is not a business matter, and because the public has a right to know what kind of people public officials hire.

17. no, you have no right to know when someone throws a temper tantrum, & no right to read their
business emails just because they're paid with public money - unless they've committed a crime.
