HORRIBLE New video shows Texas officer shove, then taser 72-year-old great grandmother
Fox News has obtained police dashboard video of the tasering of a 72 year old great grandmother in Travis County, TX.

The police claim that after Kathryn Winkfein was stopped for driving 15 miles over the speed limit in a construction zone, she disobeyed an order to sign the speeding ticker, used profane language, and became “violent.” They say the officer who tasered her and took her to be booked for resisting arrest was completely justified.

However, Winkfein says that’s a lie, and the video appears to back her up.

It shows Constable Richard McCain screaming, “Get over here now!” Winkfein replies, “Give to me and I’ll sign it.” Instead, the officer reaches out and pushes her, and she starts complaining, “Oh, you’re going to shove me? You’re going to shove a seventy-two year old woman?”

McCain then tasers her. As Winkfein lies on the ground screaming, he orders, “Now put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your back or you’re going to be tasered again.”

Fox’s Brian Kilmeade commented after running the video, “Officers insisted they acted by the book. What book is that?”

1. If she were merely a grandmother, then this would be justified
And if a mother, then she would of been asking for it.

Odd the way a headline is trying to invoke empathy by talking about her ability to bear children. 72 year old woman is good enough for me.

10. And if it was a grandfather, the cop could have legally shot him
Why do news organizations insist on identifying women by how many generations of offspring they have?

16. Women who have borne children are far more valued by society,
and more respected, than those of us who are (gasp!) childless spinsters.

2. I thought the taser was supposed to be used in lieu of a gun
not a crowd or individual control tool. But what the heck do I know?

11. I dont think they care...
Because their bosses defend them regardless. And their FOP defends them. And the masses fall for the 'every first responder is a hero' meme.

5. note about con constables. check this out
constables (in texas. mass. has them too iirc) are an ELECTED law enforcement officer, under the county.

under the law, they have as much (and in some cases more, since they can execute civil process much like a sheriff) police power as an ordinary officer (who works for a municipal, county, state etc. agency), except they are not generally subject to the same POST standards. for example, in MA a constable does not even have to attend a police academy and demonstrate knowledge, restraint, etc. and go through a hiring process.

one runs for constable, and if elected - boom, you have police powers.

18. Judges in Al. did not need any legal experience until last year.
Didn't even have to be a lawyer.

Elected police and untrained/inexpereinced judges. Quite the combo.

20. i agree.
where i lived in MA, the local constable was generally an honorary type position. even though he had police powers, he didn't drive around in a police car and do "police stuff"... which is good. he dealt with occasional civil process.

don't get me wrong, some constables ARE good at their job. it's just that there is little to no training/assurances mandatory.

6. So now the police are scared of a 72 year old woman.
I feel bad for any decent cops out there. That profession seems to be a breeding ground for cowards.

over the years from damaged goods coming back from active duty in the middle east, then becoming police officers.

These will be the same people who threw puppies from bridges and raped little girls, then killed their whole families.

19. In the last 40 to 50 years there have been wonderful breakthroughs and

accomplishments by psychologists.

In this decade, you wouldn't know it. Psychologists and psychiatrists were used as official advisors on torture.

Police are shown in incident after incident not applying the simplest exchange of persuasion with civility or any form of communication training. They seem to all be wanna-be contractors with dispensation and they rely on a tool that is known to kill people of many ages. It's a tool like a gun. Do they thrill to it?

Does anyone know what their taser training consists of? If trained, do their bosses overrule the training? Are they urged to use it under any circumstances, under any scenario?

Where should the blame for this derlict behaviour be directed?

This country is going down fast.
