29. Some days I swear I'm about to get whiplash from some of the reversals
(ie: torture photos, for example).

But this idiot - he picked from the start. I couldn't fathom why then and since then, it's become increasingly obvious that his vision is very limited, his focus very narrow, and his motives transparent (loot the Treasury for Wall St.). I gave it some time ... but I'm sick of this guy and I don't think he knows shit from shinola at this point. Completely lost what little "hope" I had in him - and Summers - well, I had NONE for him to start with, knowing his history.

It it weren't Geithner and saving the banks, unemployment would be much higher and not turning around like it is now.

57. Geithner has been in office since 2009. Not 2007.
Any changes Geithner makes now will take some time to affect GDP, and then a lot more time to affect unemployment. The fact that the recession started in 2007 has nothing to do with Geithner's performance (except maybe to emphasize the total mess he inherited).

18. What about the 31 year old with no business experience he put in charge of dismantling GM?
Edited on Tue Jun-02-09 05:36 PM by KoKo
What is it with Obama that he picks either the ones who got us into this mess or kids who know nothing about anything that's REAL in this world...along with his Hack "Has Been" Economic team?

"The F Word: Who’s Dismantling GM?" (the 31 Year Old Kid?)
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=103x453235

Call me crazy, but I don't find this cute. As the news was breaking of General Motors going bankrupt, The New York Times business section ran a front page article about the 31-year-old in charge of “dismantling General Motors and rewriting the rules of American capitalism.”

The 31-year-old in question, one Brian Deese it turns out, was, for the first few months of Barack Obama’s administration the only full time member of the auto task force. Now he's risen to become "one of the most influential voices in what may become President Obama's biggest experiment in federal intervention."

"Mr. Deese’s role is unusual for someone who is neither a formally trained economist nor a business school graduate, and who never spent much time flipping through the endless studies about the future of the American and Japanese auto industries,” writes the Times about the 31 year old from Yale. Unusual? One can only hope so.

Deese has high-level support. Steven Rattner and Lawrence Summers give him accolades. Rattner a private equity investor who has managed Mayor Bloomberg’s money among others is now heading the automotive task force. Summers, of course, one of the great deregulators, is head of the National Economic Council.

There's no need to worry, Sanger seems to believe -- a guy who's given little thought to the auto industry and the problems it faced and had never set foot in an auto assembly plant is designing the future for GM and its staff.

It gives you a sense of where the paper of record's priorities are. While he's ho hum about the auto industry's fate, David Sanger seems to be obsessed with the threat of a nuclear attack by Iran. In fact, in an article on Barack Obama’s meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Sanger was fixated on just “how much time remains to stop Iran from gaining a nuclear weapons capability.” He led with that supposed difference of opinion between the two camps before acknowledging that, “Their most obvious public differences were not over Iran at all.”

Yet the Timhttp://lauraflanders.firedoglake.com/es is hyping it. From the glib to the deadly serious the NYT just can't seem to get it right.

is hired into the government to help "fix" it. (oh he FIXED it all right)

Is it conflict of interest or more deliberate Disaster Capitalism? I just have not been able to shake the feeling that we've been ROBBED! And since Obama was elected, it hasn't really changed - not in regards to the economy and these "bailouts". I wonder why? :sarcasm:

ford foundation was a player in that executive action.

"His father, Peter F. Geithner, is the director of the Asia program at the Ford Foundation in New York. During the early 1980s, Peter Geithner oversaw the Ford Foundation's microfinance programs in Indonesia being developed by S. Ford Foundation Links Parents of Obama and Treasury Secretary Nominee
In an unusual twist of fate, the parents of Barack Obama and his pick for secretary of Treasury, Timothy Geithner, share a nonprofit connection: they worked at the Ford Foundation at the same time.

Indeed, Mr. Geithner’s father was head of the philanthropy’s Asia grant making for a period in the early 1980s and oversaw the work of Mr. Obama’s mother, who developed the organization’s microfinance programs in Indonesia.

According to the foundation, they met at least once in Jakarta.

No word on whether the two parents speculated on the future careers of their sons.
