of course not.

so, what are the odds that the Lion's (Ted Kennedy) proposal will actually make it into law?

3. It depends on how big of a mass movement there is to support its passage.
Democrats typically won't challenge a lobby as powerful as that from the insurance companies unless they feel it is the politically expedient thing to do. If such a bill came with a public alternative attached, it likely would face a Republican filibuster, and there would probably be at least 5 or possibly more Democrats who will peel away and not vote to end the filibuster in a situation where there is no full-blown movement to push its passage.

The Democrats don't do something unless there is a huge opposition movement pushing them to do it. The passage of the Civil Rights Act despite immense opposition is, in my view, a great example of how to get something passed against an entrenched interest that doesn't want it. They did it because millions of people were marching and protesting for its passage lead by people like Dr. Martin Luther King. It was the Civil Rights Movement.

I truly believe if Americans want single-payer or even a chance at a public option, it will take a movement as large and powerful if not more so than the Civil Rights Movement.

6. IF we could get the Republicans behind Single Payer, to make the Dems look bad
then the Dems could jump on board at the last minute and it would be a deal.

8. The Republicans like to take credit for the Civil Rights Act of 1964

So now is an opportunity for them to take credit for bringing SIngle Payer to small business and working people.

I've been writing to them asking them to do it for the benefit of small business.
