by "this place" I mean everywhere my wife and I went
On Friday night we drove up to DC to see "Prairie Home Companion" at Wolftrap. I have never seen I95 traffic so light. Even the beltway (495) was an easy passthrough. We got to Wolftrap from Richmond in less than 2 hours.
Saturday we went to see "Star Trek" and there were 11 people in the entire theater. We saw one other person in the lobby (other than staff). This was midday on a hot Saturday afternoon. The theater we went to consistently has a full parking lot even during the week.
Yesterday we drove west on I64 past Charlottesville to pick up our little girl who was staying with my folks and again NO TRAFFIC. I haven't seen 64 that vacant in a loooong time-my folks moved out there in 1994. No traffic at all. We didn't see one truck.
Today we went to a county park with the little one. IT was crowded. Lots of people fishing.
I know this is all anecdotal and trust me I loved being able to go places with no hassle but it was just odd. "Staycations"? Was it just that we avoided heading east toward the coast?
ON EDIT- yeah we had a great Memorial Day weekend.
I had to pick up a couple dozen fence posts there this morning and the place was packed.
I haven't seen this many people in there since it opened 15 years ago.
Of course the stupid Home Depot had ONE register open. You can use those self service scanner thingies but not for something as big as t-posts. Besides all the old people in the store are intimidated by the scanners. So there were like 10 people in line for the one register that was open.
