Hillary Clinton, the next Supreme Court Justice?
What if she and President Obama had an agreement before she became Secretary of State? She would agree to be SoS until the next opening on the Court? She did not really want the Secretary of State job but it was part of the agreement? It would keep her in the public eye until the position opened?

Hillary will be announced as the nominee next week. As soon as they can find someone to promote to the SoS position? Is this a possibility? :-)

1. No, not yet. Perhaps the next go 'round, then Susan Rice will be SoS. nt

2. Considering she has no judicial experience,
I doubt it.

6. They're scouting folks with no judicial experience. I think Wood or Granholm is
a better bet at this point.

3. I don't think so
Hillary has been doing a pretty good job in the Sec of State position. Has she given any indication that she would rather be on the SC?

4. nah, she's got global gravitas. We need a good rep to help us clean our image
I bet Obama will pick someone from his Harvard Law days, maybe an old professor who guided him....

7. True, she's good at a party. That really counts in diplomacy. And, contrary to what
a lot of folks here think, Bubba is wildly popular overseas, so it's also good if she goes to social events drag or stag.

5. I heard a discussion on NPR yesterday
that youth was going to be a factor... and they were giving examples of people born in the 50s that might be considered as "too old".

16. I think the point is
that they want someone there who will be there for quite a while to come.

And yeah, I guess that's discriminatory

Frankly, I do want someone who's going to outlast the next GOP President... and there will be one, eventually.

9. Nope. Rather, I don't think so.
She's too old, for starters. Plus, I think she's doing a great job right where she is.

She likes to interact with people; I don't think she'd like this position all that much. And I believe she said she wasn't interested when this idea was floated before an SoS was picked.

10. When she accepted the Secy of State job
She knew there were likely to be justice appoints opening up in the near future. If she really wanted to be considered for one of them why take the State Dept position jus to quit in a year or so.

I don't buy it. She is doing very well and seems to be happy in her current job.

13. I doubt she would take a temp job agreement like that.
She took SOS and intends to stay there ( at least for a little while).

14. I rather doubt it. It was pretty apparent that Obama would have to fill a court vacancy very soon..
the only surprise is that it's Souter. I don't think that Obama and Clinton would waste everybody's time confirming her for SOS if they had an understanding that the first opening she would get on the court. It doesn't make sense. He could have just told her that she would appoint her to the court rather than appoint her SOS.

17. No. Too busy and too old. She isn't old now but
only a few years younger than the guy retiring. Rpberts and Alito are both in their 50's
It will be someone near or under 50 so they will hopefully have longer to serve.

Plus Clinton is so busy and seems so happy. If she wanted to be SCOTUS she wouldn't have taken this job since they knew there would be an opening.

for her ego and personality. She likes the attention especially from the entire world. As a Justice she would be diminished...

19. I think Hillary is the perfect age to be a Justice...
Just because the Repubs put young folks on the Court, we have to accept that as the precedent? They are the exception, not the rule.
