Democrats' 'Battered Wife Syndrome' In recent years, the Washington political dynamic has often resembled an abusive marriage, in which the bullying husband (the Republicans) slaps the wife and kids around, and the battered wife (the Democrats) makes excuses and hides the ugly bruises from outsiders to keep the family together . . .
On his April 28 show, Thom Hartman talked about two primary historical examples of this dynamic pattern: Nixon and Reagan both committing treason (by making deals with the Enemy during time of War) in order to beat Humphrey and Carter respectively (And also, incidentally Irancontra.gate). And the Democrats did NOTHING about it in both cases because in LBJ's words:
it would reveal something so shocking to America that we would not be able to deal with it.
So, even as the pattern repeats itself again in the foundation/blusher/eyeshadow/lipstick-on-a-pig known as the "public healthcare option", we know from empirical observation that the bruises are only the SYMPTOM of what is being hidden and the whole "abused wife" so-called "victim" role can well be a more or less conscious act that serves a purpose.
What is it that the abused wives/Democrats are really hiding behind all of the makeup?
